These three former LSU Tigers stars were on roster bubbles heading into the NFL preseason, but walked out unscathed.
The LSU Tigers have long been one of the best programs at developing NFL talent, even during their College Football Playoff drought.
Last year, the Tigers had 39 players on active rosters, which was good for fifth in the country, tied with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. LSU has a chance to make that even more as teams figure out their Opening Week roster.
The NFL preseason just wrapped up and teams made their initial cuts down to 53 on Sunday. Here are three former Tigers who were entrenched in battles over the past few weeks or months, and came out victorious, including one very fun story:
New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr.
After missing all last year, it was sort of assumed that Beckham's prolific football career had finally coming to an end. In typical Beckham fashion, though, he was able to put on a show and worked his way back to the Giants roster.
This is no move made simply for nostalgia's sake either. The wideout looked as good as he has since 2019 in the preseason. He came close to pulling off another one of his signature acrobatic catches as well. While he didn't come down with it, it wasn't because of a lack of athelticism.
Kansas City Chiefs QB Garrett Nussmeier
Nussmeier may end up being the steal of the 2026 draft if he ever gets a serious look by the Chiefs. Of course, with Patrick Mahomes on the team, that won't happen unless he retires very early. Still, it looks like they found a very good backup. He is also actually their third quarterback right now behind Mahomes and Justin Fields.
The oblique injury that Nussmeier had to deal with last year tanked his draft stock and forced him down to the sixth round. It has been very obvious since he got healthy that he is much, much better than that. His career will be an interesting one to watch.
Tennessee Titans OT Austin Deculus
Deculus was an ironman at LSU, though, not considered an elite tackle. He has turned that into a legit NFL career, sticking around since being drafted in the sixth round back in 2022. He signed with the Titans this past offseason, where he will now continue his role as a backup. The Mamou, La. native has always been extremely reliable. Sometimes that is enough. They don't say "availability is the best ability" for nothing.
