The LSU Tigers must slow down these three Auburn Tigers stars in order to win on Saturday.
The LSU Tigers are taking on the Auburn Tigers this weekend. It'll be another tough road test, something they have struggled with, in a raucous environment, as Auburn is coming off a win over the top-ranked team in the country.
Like with LSU, Auburn is in the first year under a new coach and are still finding their footing. Alex Golesh came over from South Florida, and brought some of his top players with him.
As Lane Kiffin and his Tigers prepare to break their road losing streak, here are the top players from Auburn that they need to keep an eye on:
QB Byrum Brown
Brown is far from a perfect quarterback, but he can do plenty of damage. He's completed 64.3% of his passes for 1,205 yards with eight touchdowns to seven interceptions. He has also run the ball 107 times for 459 yards and five touchdowns, which is especially impressive given that Auburn's offensive line has allowed 23 sacks (ranked 135 out of 138 teams).
Dual-threat quarterbacks have given Blake Baker headaches in the past, but they were able to find a bit of success in slowing down Marcel Reed earlier this year. Brown will provide a tougher challenge to bring down at 6-foot-3, 235 pounds. He has been with Golesh since 2023, so the two know each other well, not just a one-year connection.
LB Elijah Melendez
With Xavier Atkins being dismissed from the team, Melendez becomes even more important than he was before. He leads the Auburn defense in most categories, a do-it-all linebacker. He has racked up 35 tackles, nine TFLs, four sacks, an interception and five total passes defensed.
Melendez is a well-rounded player with few holes in his game. He is a great athlete who played running back in high school and will look to slow down Sam Leavitt and the LSU run game.
RB Jeremiah Cobb
Brown isn't the only rushing threat that Auburn has, though he is the main focus of it. When Cobb gets the ball, he's usually very efficient. He has 58 rushes this season with 306 yards and two touchdowns. He was an All-SEC back last season and shouldn't be overlooked just because he was low volume. His speed and burst work as a great complement to Brown. Their best games this season have been when they are a little bit more well-rounded and getting Cobb involved.
