CBS Sports posted a “10 College Football Playoff guarantees for 2026” story on Sunday, and in that story, Brad Crawford lists Memphis as a potential first-time college football playoff team.
The “guarantee” was that the Group of Six would produce a first-time CFP team, and he listed UNLV and Memphis as two teams that would fit that mold. Liberty, Boise State, James Madison and Tulane have all made the CFP, but this season the race could be wide open.
Crawford points out the Week Zero meeting between Memphis and UNLV and how it could be a huge start for whoever wins.
The Tigers will also play Boise State in Week 2. The Broncos are expected to be one of the top G6 teams in the country and will look to return to the CFP for the first time since 2024.
