Memphis football had the fourth largest G6 budget, according to Matt Brown

Last week, Extra Point's Matt Brown released the football operating numbers for the 2025 Fiscal Year, which he obtained through open records requests. After this was published, Hero Sports' Colton Hood ranked the top 25 G6 football budgets from those numbers.

Fiscal Year 2025 runs from July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025, so the budgets are from the 2024 season, where the Tigers finished 11-2 and beat West Virginia in the Frisco Bowl.

It's also the season in which Ohio State won the College Football Playoffs.

Brown was able to obtain the operating numbers from most FBS programs at public universities, and Troy is the only public G6 school not represented.

According to Hood's list, Memphis football had a budget of $24,770,267 during the 2024 season, ranking fourth in the G6 behind Boise State, South Florida and Colorado State.

Seven programs in the American made the top 25, and the conference had the second-most teams in the list behind the "new Pac-12".

Hood points out that Colorado State's $37,791,844, which led G6, is a little bit of an outlier. The Rams' new stadium is on the books for the FY25, and if you take that out, their operating budget would put them one spot behind the Tigers.
