Memphis returns to action Thursday night against UAB, and it will look to bounce back with a win after losing three of its last four games. The Tigers are coming off a two-point loss at home against Tulane, and they’re looking for their first road win since beating Rice on January 3.

UAB enters the game with a 14-8 record, but it’s been an interesting season for Andy Kennedy’s team. The Blazers dropped non-conference games against Alabama State and Troy at home, and they haven’t won a conference game at home.

UAB is 0-4 inside Bartow Arena during conference play, but it’s a perfect 5-0 on the road since the start of conference play.

As a team, the Blazers average 81.9 points per game, shooting 44.8 percent from the field, 29 percent from three-point range and 70.9 percent from the free-throw line. Five players average 10 or more points per game for the Blazers, and sophomore Chance Westry leads the team with 14.9 points per game.

While they have a lot of scorers on the roster, only three players are currently shooting better than 30 percent from three-point range. The Blazers also don’t turn the ball over very often, and they’re averaging only 9.1 turnovers per game.

Defensively, Kennedy’s team allows 74.9 points per game, and opposing teams shoot 42.7 percent from the field and 32.9 percent from three-point range. UAB doesn’t have a ton of size, but it does a nice job on the boards and has a plus-5.3 rebounding margin.

What to expect from the Tigers against UAB:

Memphis has dealt with injuries for most of the season, but five players appeared on the American Conference players’ availability report before Sunday’s game against Tulane. The report will likely be released later this evening, but a lot of people will be watching to see who appears on it before tonight’s game.

Out of the five, Aaron Bradshaw, Sincere Parker and Zach Davis all played, while Curtis Givens III and Hasan Abdul Hakim both missed the game. Givens missed the game with a knee injury, while Abdul Hakim has missed the last two games with an illness.

Penny Hardaway has used the same starting lineup for the last two games, and it’ll be interesting to see if he sticks with that group or makes a change. The Tigers have struggled early in the last two games, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see Hardaway tweak the lineup.

The Blazers lack size throughout their roster, and Hardaway could elect to go big in an attempt to overpower UAB with their size.

While they don’t have a ton of size, Kennedy’s team is still averaging more than 40 rebounds per game, and this feels like a big opportunity for Bradshaw and the Tigers’ frontcourt. Bradshaw has recorded 10 or more points in six of the last seven games, and he has grabbed eight or more rebounds in three of the last four contests.

Memphis has had a lot of success against the Blazers, but the Tigers are 4-4 in Birmingham since 2017.
