Memphis will play its second game of a three-game home stretch on Wednesday against New Orleans. The Tigers are looking to win back-to-back games for the first time this season, and it feels like an important game with four straight matchups against high-major opponents coming up on the schedule.

New Orleans enters the game with a 2-5 record, but they started the season with a road win against TCU and beat Tulane a few weeks ago. Two weeks ago, the Privateers led Mississippi State with 13 seconds left in the game before the Bulldogs forced overtime and secured the win.

Stacy Hollowell’s team has yet to play a home game this season, and they’ve played four teams inside the KenPom top 100 this year.

New Orleans has made a lot of headlines over the last year after three players were suspended and then banned last month for gambling-related violations that stemmed from last season.

What to expect from Memphis:

After four straight losses, Memphis picked up a win last week against Southern Illinois. They played a lot better, and they’ll look to carry that momentum into Wednesday night’s game.

Last Wednesday, the Memphis starters only scored 24 points, while the bench scored 50 points. Over the last three games, Dug McDaniel has looked like the best scorer on the team, and he’s averaging 19 points per game since going 1-for-10 against UNLV.

The Tigers didn’t need much from the starters, which allowed them to let some of the rotation pieces get more playing time. Julius Thedford finished with 15 points and six rebounds in 24 minutes off the bench, while Hasan Abdul Hakim made his season debut and played 21 minutes.

Abdul Hakim will be a player to watch tonight against New Orleans. After missing the first five games of the season, he only scored four points against the Salukis, but it looks like he could play a much bigger role as he gets more comfortable returning from his injury.

Aaron Bradshaw has been one of the biggest stories of the young season, and he had his best game of the year a week ago against Southern Illinois. He finished with 14 points, four rebounds and three steals, and it will be interesting to see if he can build off that performance tonight against the Privateers.

It will also be interesting to see if Penny Hardaway sticks with the same starting lineup of Ashton Hardaway, Simon Majok, Thierno Sylla, Zach Davis and Dug McDaniel. Hardaway has shown in the past that he likes to stick with lineups after wins, but it still looks like the head coach is trying to find what lineup works best to start games.
