Memphis announced nine new signees cover image

Memphis continues to build next year’s roster through the transfer portal and announced nine new additions Monday morning. After more than 40 players entered the transfer portal, Charles Huff and his staff have a lot to replace, but they’ve gotten off to a fast start with 11 signees announced since the transfer portal opened on Friday.

With most of the staff coming over from Southern Miss, most of the current transfer portal additions join the program from the Golden Eagles. Eight of the nine additions today played at Southern Miss last season, and 10 of the 11 current additions join the program from Hattiesburg.

Memphis announced yesterday that wide receiver Tychaun Chapman became the first signee out of the transfer portal, before it was reported last night that Wofford cornerback Darius Malcolm Jr. was also joining the program.

RB Jaylin Carter (Southern Miss)

Jaylin Carter committed to Southern Miss as a three-star recruit last year, and he appeared in nine games as a true freshman. In those games, he recorded 166 yards and two touchdowns on 38 carries, and he added 133 yards on 20 receptions.

Carter has three seasons of eligibility remaining.

DL Jaden McKinney (Southern Miss)

Jaden McKinney started his career at Austin Peay before transferring to Southern Miss following two seasons. In his lone year with the Golden Eagles, the Collierville native recorded 27 tackles and two tackles for loss in 13 games.

McKinney, a junior, will have one year of eligibility remaining.

DB Ahmere Foster (Southern Miss)

Ahmere Foster is another player who followed Huff from Marshall to Southern Miss, and he’ll follow his coach again to Memphis. The junior has recorded 47 tackles and three interceptions last season for the Golden Eagles, and he has one year of eligibility remaining.

DB Dylan King (Southern Miss)

Dylan King started his career at Tennessee State before transferring to East Mississippi Community College. In his one season at East Mississippi Community College, he became a JUCO All-American before transferring to Southern Miss.

King recorded 27 tackles and a pass deflection in his lone year in Hattiesburg. He’ll have one year of eligibility remaining.

OL Riley McGehee (Arkansas State)

Riley McGehee is one of the few players who joined the program that didn’t play for Southern Miss last season, transferring to Memphis after two seasons at Arkansas State. In 2025, McGhee played 985 snaps and allowed four sacks in seven games at left tackle.

The New Hope, Alabama, native joins the program with two years of eligibility remaining.

WR Jermane Hayes (Southern Miss)

Jermane Hayes committed and signed with Southern Miss as a three-star recruit in the class of 2025 and appeared in four games this season. In those four games, Hayes recorded 36 yards on four receptions.

Since he only played four games, Hayes would be eligible for a redshirt and will likely have four years of eligibility remaining.

DL Elijah Kinsler (Southern Miss)

Elijah Kinsler joins the Tigers after one season with Southern Miss and a redshirt year at West Virginia. In his lone season with the Mountaineers, Kinsler appeared in three games, including the bowl game against Memphis, and recorded two total tackles.

At Southern Miss, Kinsler appeared in five games but didn’t record any stats.

DL Chris Stokes (Southern Miss)

Chris Stokes joins several other players following the pipeline from Marshall to Southern Miss to Memphis. Stokes redshirted during his freshman season with the Thundering Herd, and he only appeared in one game in Hattiesburg, according to the Southern Miss football website.

LB Zach Ruffin (Southern Miss)

Zach Ruffin committed to Southern Miss as a four-star recruit in the class of 2025, according to 247Sports, and he appeared in all 13 games as a true freshman. Ruffin only recorded four tackles, and most of his snaps came on special teams.

247Sports ranked Ruffin the No. 13 player in the state of Mississippi, and he will have three seasons of eligibility left.
