Memphis now up to 27 players in transfer portal
The mass exodus continues for the Memphis football team, and the Tigers now have 27 players expected to enter the transfer portal, according to On3. New head coach Charles Huff is replacing the entire coaching staff, which will likely result in more roster turnover.
The portal doesn’t officially open until January 2, but players all across the country are announcing plans to enter the portal before it opens in the new year.
Huff added nearly 70 players a year ago in his first season at Southern Miss, and it looks like he’ll have a similar task with the Tigers.
WR Jamari Hawkins
Jamari Hawkins spent four years at Memphis, including a redshirt season in 2022. After not seeing much action as a redshirt freshman and redshirt sophomore, Hawkins had a breakout season this year and finished with 623 yards and two touchdowns on 38 receptions.
Hawkins became one of Brendon Lewis’ favorite options when he wanted to take shots downfield, and he had three games with a reception that was 50 yards or more. The wide receiver’s best game came against Tulsa when he recorded 110 yards on seven receptions.
K Gianni Spetic
Gianni Spetic joined the Tigers this season after spending two years at Ohio. The Kicker was solid throughout his junior season, and he made 75 percent of his field goals and was a perfect 49-for-49 on extra-point attempts.
Spetic had a powerful leg and went 7-for-11 on field goals 40 yards or longer.
DL Jayden Marble
Jayden Marble entered the transfer portal after recording 11 tackles on the year, including a tackle in the bowl game against NC State. The redshirt sophomore appeared in two games in 2024, but he received more snaps this season.
He recorded a season-high three tackles in the season-opening win against Chattanooga.
DL Kavion Benton
Kavion Benton entered the transfer portal after not seeing any action in two seasons with the Tigers. The Southwind High School product was redshirted last season.
Benton signed with Memphis as a three-star recruit and picked the Tigers over offers from Florida, Louisville and Oregon.
LB Kenyon Rivera
Kenyon Rivera signed with Memphis out of Buford High School in the class of 2025. He chose the Tigers over offers from Kansas, Arizona State and Indiana.
Rivera didn’t appear in any games this season and has four years of eligibility remaining.
OL Josiah Clemons
Josiah Clemons is another true freshman entering the portal after one year. The offensive lineman signed with Memphis over offers from Mississippi State, Arkansas State and Southern Miss.
The 6-foot-7, 300-pound lineman will have four years of eligibility remaining.
OL Ethan Newman
Ethan Newman joined the Tigers after spending two seasons with Kennesaw State, and he appeared in eight games and made one start at Memphis. The offensive lineman allowed two hurries and no sacks this year.
Newman has two years of eligibility remaining.
