A pair of former Tigers are heading to the Super Bowl cover image

On Sunday, the Patriots and the Seahawks punched their tickets to Super Bowl LX in Santa Clara, California.

New England beat the Broncos in a snowy, low-scoring game, while Seattle outdueled the Rams on Sunday Night. While it’s extremely difficult to make it to the Super Bowl, there are two former Tigers who will be a part of Super Bowl LX.

Both Antonio Gibson and Kobee Minor are on the Patriots roster, but it’s unlikely either will see the field on Super Bowl Sunday. Minor has been inactive for the last two weeks, while Gibson tore his ACL in week five.

Outside of Gibson and Minor, Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III is a local product, but he didn’t attend the University of Memphis. Walker attended Arlington High School before playing college football at Wake Forest and Michigan State.

Kobee Minor

Minor started his career at Texas Tech, where he spent three seasons and appeared in 23 games. After three seasons, he transferred to Indiana for his redshirt junior season and earned honorable mention All-Big Ten from the conference coaches and media panel.

Minor transferred to Memphis for his final season of eligibility, and he finished the season with 38 tackles, seven tackles for loss, two sacks and two forced fumbles.

The defensive back was drafted with the final selection of the 2025 NFL Draft, which made him the 2025 Mr. Irrelevant. Minor made the active roster and played four games during his rookie season, and he finished the season with one tackle, which came in week 17 against the Jets.

Antonio Gibson

Gibson joined the Tigers after two seasons at East Central Community College in Mississippi. He played running back and wide receiver for the Tigers, and he recorded 735 yards and eight touchdowns during his senior year.

Gibson was drafted in the third round by Washington and ran for 795 yards and 11 touchdowns as a rookie. In his second season, he ran for more than 1,000 yards and had 10 total touchdowns.

Following four seasons with Washington, Gibson signed a three-year deal with New England, but earlier this year, in the second year of his contract, Gibson tore his ACL. The running back was sent to the IR after recording 106 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries.
