Memphis picked up its second commitment in the class of 2027 with the addition of cornerback Malik Dean Jr. The defensive back spent the weekend on an official visit with the program, and Charles Huff and his staff locked him down Saturday night.

Dean is a local prospect and attends Germantown High School. Dean stands at 6-foot-2 and 180 pounds, and he was named second-team All-Region during his sophomore year.

At a Rivals camp in late April, the cornerback ran a 4.53 40-yard dash and a 4.32 shuttle. He also recorded an 117.6” broad jump and a 33.5” vertical jump.

Dean helped lead Germantown to a 7-4 record last season, and he was part of a defense that held opponents to just 12 points per game through the first four weeks of the season. The Red Devils started the season 6-0, but they went 1-4 to finish the year.

MaxPreps has recorded stats for only three of the games Dean played in during his junior year, and he recorded 10 tackles and deflected a pair of passes in those two games.

According to Dean’s X account, he holds 14 offers, and the Tigers offered him on January 22. He was originally scheduled to visit UAB this weekend and Memphis next weekend, but he changed his schedule and instead visited Huff’s program with several other recruits this weekend.

Dean was on campus with offensive lineman Bryson Sanderson, wide receiver MJ Knight,  and offensive tackle Jonathan Toney. Knight announced his commitment to Georgia Southern yesterday.

It appears three other recruits were on campus this weekend with those four, including quarterback commit Ethan Tisdale.

Offensive lineman Gage Luther was also on campus. He was scheduled for an official visit from June 15-17, but it appears the visit was moved up to the weekend.

This was Dean’s second official visit after he was in Bowling Green, Kentucky, for a visit with Western Kentucky.

He also participated in Memphis’ Mega Camp in early June, which is where he set up his official visit after conversations with defensive backs coach Dominique Bowman and defensive analyst Rodney Saulsberry Jr.

Dean isn’t ranked by 247Sports or Rivals, but Prep Redzone ranks him as the No. 6 defensive back in Tennessee and the No. 67 defensive back in the country.

He becomes the second player to commit to Memphis in the class of 2027, joining quarterback Ethan Tisdale from Georgia. The Tigers have hosted a handful of players over the last few weeks, and they will host more over the next two months, while high school players are out of school for summer break.
