According to reports, Curtis Givens III will enter the transfer portal when it opens next week.
The transfer portal doesn’t officially open until Tuesday, April 7, but players around the country are already sharing their plans. Memphis has eight players with decisions to make, and Givens is the second player set to enter the portal.
On Saturday, it was reported that Ashton Hardaway will enter the transfer portal for the third time in his career following his junior season with the Tigers.
Givens was one of the biggest question marks following his sophomore campaign. Guard averaged 9.4 points, 2.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 25.6 minutes per game, while shooting 36.5 percent from three-point range.
The Memphis native battled injuries throughout the season and appeared in only 25 games, making 15 starts.
Givens played high school basketball at Memphis University School before transferring to basketball powerhouse Montverde Academy to play alongside Cooper Flagg, Asa Newell, Derik Queen and Liam McNeeley. Givens signed with LSU and averaged 4.8 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 32 games as a freshman before entering the transfer portal and landing on Penny Hardaway’s roster.
The sophomore scored 20 points in the second game of the season against Ole Miss and 18 points in back-to-back games against Mississippi State and Alabama State, and he became a consistent piece of the Tigers in conference play. Givens played 28 or more minutes in 11 of the last 15 games of the season.
Most people viewed Givens as a piece of the core that would return next season to give the team continuity going into the 2026-27 season, and that’s not completely out of the question. Hardaway gave all eight players an opportunity to return to the team, but it’s unclear if he will continue to recruit guys who enter the transfer portal.
While it’s uncommon, players can withdraw their name from the transfer portal at any time if they decide to return to their previous school.
Givens is the fourth Tiger who has publicly made a decision about his future, and he’ll enter the transfer portal with two seasons of eligibility remaining.
