It was announced on Monday that former Tiger Josh Minott has signed a two-year deal to return to Brooklyn. The deal, which was announced by Shams Charania, will be a $9 million deal that includes a team option in the second season.
Minott was traded from Boston to Brooklyn ahead of the trade deadline in February, and he appeared in 16 games for the Nets. In those 16 games, he averaged 10.8 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.3 steals in 19.3 minutes per game.
He shot 39.5 percent from deep on 4.8 attempts per game, and he shot 49.1 percent from the field.
The new deal includes a team option in the second year, giving Brooklyn more time to evaluate what they have in Minott. While he has already played four seasons in the NBA, the forward is only 23 years old, and his size, 6-foot-8 and 205 pounds, makes him an intriguing player.
Before being traded, Minott appeared in 33 games for the Celtics and averaged 5.8 points, 3.6 rebounds and an assist in 25.9 minutes of action. Like Brooklyn, it appears Boston brought the former Tiger in to see if he could be a rotation piece moving forward before trading him to the Nets for cash considerations.
Minott joined the Celtics after spending three seasons with the Timberwolves. The forward was traded to Minnesota after being drafted by the Charlotte Hornets with the 45th pick in the 2022 draft.
In three seasons with the Timberwolves, Minott averaged 2.3 points, a rebound and shot 48.8 percent in five minutes per game. His best season in Minnesota was his rookie season when he averaged 3.1 points and 1.7 rebounds in 6.4 minutes.
The forward signed with Memphis as a four-star recruit in the class of 2021, and he was part of one of the Tigers’ No. 1 recruiting classes, featuring top-10 recruits Jalen Duren and Emoni Bates.
Minott appeared in 33 games, making five starts, and he averaged 6.6 points, 3.8 rebounds and 0.8 steals per game. He shot 52.2 percent from the field on 4.8 field goals per game, and he shot only 14.3 percent from deep.
Minott’s best game came on the road against Tulsa when he finished with 18 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two steals. It was part of a three-game stretch where he averaged 15.6 points.
The forward is one of six former Tigers in the NBA on either a standard or two-way contract.
