Following a quiet couple of days, Memphis announced three new signees on Friday, including two high school recruits who were committed to Southern Miss before Charles Huff took the Tigers’ head coaching job. The Tigers picked up defensive tackle Eric Thomas from Syracuse and signed high school prospects Richard Thigpen and Joshua Joseph.
Prior to Friday’s announcements, the Tigers signed only two players, offensive lineman Skyler Grant and long snapper Weston Simmons, since Wednesday.
Thomas signed with Syracuse as a three-star recruit and chose the Orange over offers from Marshall, South Carolina and Georgia Tech. Charles Huff was at Marshall when Thomas visited before the Thundering Herd’s 2024 season, and it appears that the two have maintained a steady relationship.
Thomas appeared in two games with the Orange and will have four seasons of eligibility remaining.
Thigpen originally signed with Southern Miss on December 3 before Huff made the move to Memphis, but he de-committed from the program on December 11. The offensive lineman chose the Tigers offers from several Power Four schools, including Mississippi State, Georgia Tech and Kentucky.
Thigpen signed as a three-star recruit in the class of 2026 after spending his high school career at Ensworth High School in Nashville.
Memphis also signed wide receiver Joshua Joseph, who committed to Southern Miss on November 19. Joseph is a three-star recruit and played high school football at Miami Central.
It’s the second time that he has flipped his commitment after originally being committed to Georgia State.
Memphis also announced the signings of Grant and Simmons earlier this week.
Grant, an offensive lineman, spent the last five seasons at Old Dominion, but it appears he has another year of eligibility after not playing his redshirt freshman season. Simmons, a long snapper, joined the team after seeing limited action in three years at Cincinnati.
With the signings, Memphis has now announced 44 signings since the start of the transfer portal.
