Memphis continues to add to roster with four additions over the weekend cover image

Charles Huff continues to add to his first Memphis roster with four more weekend additions. The Tigers announced the signings of running backs Manny Covey, Jordan Thompson and edge rusher Justin Wallace, while cornerback Dilan Williamson announced his commitment on social media Sunday afternoon.

Memphis announced the signing of Thompson on Saturday, and he’ll join the Tigers as a high school recruit out of Coconut Creek High School in Florida. The three-star recruit signed with Southern Miss before the coaching change and will follow Huff and his staff to Memphis.

The running back signs with Memphis over offers from South Florida, Virginia Tech and Pittsburgh.

Thompson was originally committed to USF and had several Power Four teams looking to flip him before he ultimately flipped to the Golden Eagles on December 3. Thompson recorded 722 yards and 10 rushing touchdowns and added 349 yards and three receiving touchdowns in 10 games where statistics were recorded last year.

The running back can hurt opponents with his speed out of the backfield, but he also has the versatility to be a pass catcher and be an effective kick returner.

Memphis also added another running back with collegiate experience with the addition of Cincinnati transfer Manny Covey. Covey wrapped up his redshirt junior season with the Bearcats and recorded 198 yards and one touchdown on 28 carries in 13 games.

The running back recorded 78 rushing yards and 28 yards through the air in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl against Navy a few weeks ago and was named Cincinnati’s most outstanding offensive player by the AutoZone Liberty Bowl. He’ll have one season of eligibility remaining.

The Tigers also announced the signing of defensive lineman Justin Wallace, who joins the team after spending the last four years at Western Carolina. Wallace recorded 30 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, four sacks and forced a fumble in 13 games during his redshirt junior season, and he joins the Tigers with two years of eligibility remaining.

Memphis also picked up a commitment from defensive back Dilan Williamson, who spent the last three years at Division-II Concordia-St. Paul. Williamson recorded 19 tackles, an interception and six pass deflections in 10 games last season, and he hasn’t allowed a catch in man coverage over the last two years, according to social media.

With the recent additions, Memphis has signed 47 players since the start of the transfer portal, and that’s without the official announcement of Williamson’s signing.
