According to On3’s Pete Nakos, former Syracuse defensive lineman DeAngelo Thompson committed to Memphis Friday night.
Thompson signed with the Orange as a three-star recruit out of Miami, Florida, and he picked Syracuse over offers from FAU, Temple and Tulane. In high school, Thompson helped lead Northwestern High School to a 12-2 record during his senior year, and his defense didn’t allow a single point over the last three games.
Northwestern won the 3A FHSAA state championship during Thompson’s senior year, and it outscored its opponents 262-12.
As a freshman, Thompson appeared in four games, according to the Syracuse football website, but he only recorded defensive snaps in two games against Colgate and Georgia Tech.
The defensive lineman played 14 snaps, but he didn’t record a tackle on defense or on special teams. After the season, he entered the portal and will have four years of eligibility remaining after taking a redshirt year.
Memphis hasn’t announced Thompson as a signee yet, but he’ll be the second defensive lineman from Miami to sign with the Tigers over the last week once it becomes official. The Tigers have signed 52 players from the transfer portal. Once the defensive lineman signs, he’ll become the 27th defensive player to sign with Memphis.
