What did Charles Huff during his presser ahead of Army?

Charles Huff met with the media on Tuesday to discuss the upcoming game against Army, the win over East Carolina and his name being thrown around for job openings.

The Tigers bounced back from its loss two weeks ago with a win last week over East Carolina, and they’ll look to make it two in a row on Saturday with a win over Army. Huff spent a ton of time talking about about the Black Knights and the issues they pose in game planning and preparation.

Here’s what Huff said during his weekly press conference.

Huff started the press conference talking about the victory over the Pirates. He said he was happy with the win, but he wasn’t thrilled with the way his team got there.

He said there were a lot of things to work on, but he said that sometimes teams need wins like that to better prepare them for the rest of the season.

“Obviously, last game, excited, pleased, fired up about the result, but you can’t get the result confused or mixed up with progress,” Huff said. “We still have a lot of work to do. No, I don’t want to win games like that where we only play 28 minutes of football, but I do think as we’re closing the gap, you have to win some games like that. You’ve got to have some games that are ugly. You’ve got to have some games that are ugly turned beautiful, and you have to have some that are beautiful from start to finish. So, I think as we’re building, those games help kind of callus us because it gives us the confidence that we can turn things around if things aren’t going right.”

This week’s game against Army:

Huff switched gears and talked about the upcoming matchup against Army. It’s the first game against a military institution for the Tigers, and they will play Navy in a few weeks.

Huff spoke highly about the staff and roster, and he spent a lot of time talking about how different it is preparing for a team like Navy.

“Obviously, what Army represents, not only as an athletic program but what they represent in this country, it’s an honor to stand on the other sideline and coach against them,” Huff said. “They’ve got really good players. They’re tough. Obviously, with their different offensive scheme, it creates a huge challenge just because we don’t see it a ton.”

He said that even preparing for Navy is different from preparing for Army, and it will be interesting to see how they look on Saturday.

His name popping up for other jobs:

There are several Power Four job openings already open before November, and Huff’s name has been listed for all of them. Huff is certainly a coach on the rise, and he was asked how he’s handling his name being out there.

He said that he hasn’t talked with any other schools about any potential jobs, but he did talk to the team about it and told them that it was just noise.

“I talked to them probably three weeks ago,” Huff said. “I told them every job that’s getting ready to come open my name is going to come up for. I said just like for you when you score a touchdown someone is going to retweet your deal. My job is to make them understand it is not one of these taboo ‘it’s not happening,’ but my job is to let them know I’m the head coach hear…No one can control the outside noise, but we can control the volume.”
