With the offseason underway, it’s fun to look back and see where former Tigers are playing, especially those playing overseas. After looking at Tyler Harris, it’s time to look at a player who was in the same recruiting class as Harris.
Alex Lomax played for Penny Hardaway in high school at East High School before committing to Wichita State during his senior season. After Hardaway took the job at Memphis, Shockers’ coach Gregg Marshall let the point guard out of his national letter of intent, and he signed with the Tigers.
As a freshman, Lomax appeared in 35 games, making 11 starts, and he averaged 5.1 points, 2.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists and a steal in 19.9 minutes per game. During his sophomore season, he saw more playing time, 24.2 minutes per game, and he averaged 6.7 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.3 assists, a career high, and 1.5 steals in 31 games, including four starts.
Lomax’s scoring dropped during his junior and senior seasons, but he remained a nice defender and facilitator for the team.
Since he played during the COVID season, the point guard received a fifth season of eligibility, and he appeared in only 24 games, making 16 starts, due to injuries. During his final season, he averaged 6.8 points, 3.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.3 steals in 27.6 minutes per game.
Lomax had a season-high 16 points in a conference game against USF, and two games later, he had a career-high seven steals in a road game against Tulane. He also made some massive plays in the American Conference championship victory over Houston.
After leaving Memphis, Lomax joined the NBA G-League, but he appeared in only four games for the Greensboro Swarm before leaving the team and heading to Bulgaria. The point guard joined Spartak Pleven in the top Bulgarian league, and he averaged 10.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists in 15 games.
Following that season, the point guard went to Kosovo where he averaged 15.3 points, 5.6 rebounds and 5.7 assists in 20 games for Bora. He played 32.6 minutes per game and averaged two steals.
When the season ended, Lomax joined Zonkeys de Tijuana in Mexico, but he only appeared in two games.
This season, Lomax started the year in Bosnia, averaging 18.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.4 assists in 10 games before returning to Kosovo to play for Sigal Prishtina. While in Bosnia to start the season, the point guard set a career-high 34 points in a game on February 1.
He appeared in nine games for the team and averaged 10.3 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.8 assists. It appears Sigal Prishtina’s final game of the season was on April 8, and Lomax finished with 19 points, eight rebounds and eight assists in 40 minutes.
