While there are a handful of former Tigers in the NBA, there are a lot of former players playing professional basketball around the world. After leaving Memphis, Kareem Brewton has played in multiple countries, and he just wrapped up a season with Kralovsti Sokoli of the Czech Republic - Mattoni NBL.
After being named First Team All-Region, Brewton went to JUCO Eastern Florida State out of high school. As a freshman, he was named First Team All-Southern Conference and scored in double-figures 24 times during his first season with the Titans.
Brewton returned for his sophomore season and became a First Team NJCAA All-American after averaging 19.9 points, 5.1 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game. Bretton was ranked the No. 23 JUCO player in the country, and he chose the Tigers over offers from Auburn, Ole Miss and Tennessee.
Brewton averaged 9.1 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game through 34 games, including 14 starts during his junior season. As a senior, he averaged 8.1 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.2 steals per game in 22.3 minutes per contest.
The guard recorded a career-high 25 points in a road loss against Houston, and three games later, he went 6-for-11 from deep in a home game against SMU. While he had some really impressive games, there were times when he struggled to find his consistency.
Since college, Brewton has played in multiple countries, including Bosnia, Kazakhstan, Poland, Portugal and Romania. During the 2020-21 season, he averaged 17.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 26 games for Esgueira Aveiro Oli in Portugal.
Following that season, he went to Romani and averaged 12.5 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 28 games for CSM Galati. After averaging more than 12 points in back-to-back seasons, he made the move to Poland but struggled to find his footing, averaging 5.7 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 28 games for BC Zielona Góra.
Brewton just wrapped up his season with BK GAPA Hradec Kralove in the Czech Republic NBL. He averaged 11.2 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.2 assists in 29 games and averaged 25 minutes per game.
He shot 48.1 percent from the field and 35.1 percent from deep. Brewton scored a season-high 22 points in early April against Slavia, shooting 5-for-8 from three-point range.
He also ended the season with five straight games in double-figures. It’s unclear if Brewton will return to the Czech Republic next season, but based on how he ended the season, he has shown that he can still make an impact on someone’s roster.
