Penny Hardaway and his staff have been busy this offseason putting together a roster for the 2026-27 season. Memphis has added nine players from the transfer portal and three high school recruits to a roster that returns only two players from last season’s roster.

Hardaway has 14 players committed to next season’s team, and he has said several times that he would like to stay at 14 players and keep the final roster spot open in case something “sweet” comes along. With the team nearly set, it’s a good time to see where the Tigers rank in offseason and transfer portal rankings.

247Sports:

247Sports ranks Memphis as the No. 49 transfer portal in the country and the No. 1 transfer portal in the conference. The Tigers have added nine transfers, including a pair of four-stars, and they’ve brought in the second-most transfers behind South Florida, which has added 11 players from the portal.

Bart Torvik:

While Bart Torvik doesn’t rank transfer portal classes, he has already posted his early 2027 team rankings. The Tigers come in at No. 93 with a 114.8 adjusted offensive efficiency rating (61) and a 105.1 adjusted defensive efficiency rating (144).

Barttorvik.com, which is similar to KenPom, doesn’t rank teams like the Associated Press poll. It ranks teams based on metrics and their offensive and defensive efficiency rankings.

Memphis is ranked between George Mason (92) and Oregon State (94), and it’s the third-highest team in the American behind Wichita State (61) and South Florida (84).

EvanMiya:

EvanMiya.com ranks Memphis as the No. 63 incoming transfer class in the country and the top transfer portal class in the conference. The Tigers are stuck between Oregon State and Clemson in the transfer portal rankings, and a pair of American teams rank behind Hardaway’s squad in the 60s.

Wichita State ranks No. 66, while USF ranks No. 68.

Evan Miya hasn’t updated the addition of Maxim Logue to the Tigers’ recruiting class, and his addition would likely improve Memphis’ rankings. Miya has Logue as a three-star transfer, and his website predicts that Memphis’ current roster, with the addition of the FAU transfer, would be ranked between 76-87 in a preseason rankings, which is significantly higher than Bart Torvik’s current ranking.
