In less than 75 days, Memphis will take the field for its first game against UNLV. Charles Huff and his staff brought in more than 70 new players, and there are questions at seemingly every position, especially on the offensive side of the ball.
After looking at who could be the starting quarterback and running back, it’s time to take a look at who could start at receiver. Lindy’s Sports and Athlon Sports have released their college football preseason magazines, and both have projected starters for the Tigers.
Phil Steele will release his preseason magazine in early July, and he will also have starter predictions for the upcoming season.
With Athlon and Lindy’s magazines out, it’s a good time to take a peek at who they predict will start for Memphis.
Lindy’s Sports:
Tychaun Chapman (Southern Miss transfer)
Jemyri Davis (Kansas State transfer)
Terrell Timmons Jr. (Colorado transfer)
Athlon Sports
Chapman
Davis
Alante Brown (Michigan State transfer)
[Backups]
Bryce Dorsey
Timmons Jr.
Brady Kluse
With only a few returners at the receiver position, most of the projected starters are transfers, but it is interesting that neither Lindy’s nor Athlon have Brady Kluse as a starter.
Kluse recorded 240 yards and two touchdowns on 22 receptions last season as a sophomore, and it will be interesting to see what type of role he plays in the new offense.
With an entirely new coaching staff, Kluse is in a similar boat with most of the transfers on the roster learning the new staff and system. The wide receiver turned into a fan favorite over the last two seasons with his highlight-reel catches, and he should factor into the rotation.
With a ton of transfers on the roster, a handful of them followed the coaching staff from Southern Miss, including receiver Tychaun Chapman. After starting the season at North Carolina, Chapman transferred to Marshall and spent last season with the Golden Eagles.
In 2025, Chapman recorded 448 yards and three touchdowns on 25 receptions.
Timmons is another older transfer on the roster, and he’s spent the last four years at Power Four programs. The 6-foot-2 receiver started at NC State before transferring to Colorado for the last two seasons.
He didn’t see much playing time with the Buffaloes, and he finished the 2025 season with 58 yards on three catches.
Kansas State transfer Jemyri Davis will be an interesting player. The receiver recorded 549 yards and six touchdowns at Trinity Valley Community College before transferring to Kansas State, but he only recorded two receptions with the Wildcats.
Michigan State transfer Alante Brown will be a wildcard in the receiver room. Brown started his career at Nebraska before transferring to Michigan State, but he dealt with injuries in 2025.
The receiver has recorded 309 yards in five collegiate seasons.
The Tigers will have options in the receiver room, and it appears it could be too early to predict who will be starting at the receiver positions.
