Zach Davis named American Player of the Week cover image

The American named Zach Davis as its player of the week after two impressive performances against New Orleans and Baylor. Davis started the week with a 10-point performance against the Privateers and finished it with a 23-point outing against the Bears.

Davis is the first Tiger player this year to be named conference player of the week.

The 6-foot-7 wing came off the bench against New Orleans, but he made a huge impact in the time that he was on the court. Davis finished the game with 10 points and led the team with nine rebounds, while playing great defense on the other end of the court.

Against Baylor, the wing recorded his first double-double of the season with 23 points and 13 rebounds, and he added a pair of steals. Penny Hardaway put Davis back into the starting lineup on Saturday, and he played a season-high 33 minutes.

In addition to what he has been doing offensively, Davis has turned into the best perimeter defender on the team, and he continued his impressive play over the last week. Against New Orleans, the wing finished with a 96.4 defensive rating and recorded six stops on the defensive end of the court.

On Saturday, Davis ended the game with an 83.7 defensive rating and recorded 11 stops for a 95.2 stop percentage. The senior guarded Cameron Carr – who entered the game as Baylor’s leading scorer – most of the night, and he was held to 3-for-15 from the field and had three turnovers.
