Fresh off flipping a top 2027 prospect, the Miami Hurricanes eye five-star Asher Ghioto. The elite edge rusher worked with Jason Taylor and aims to shatter an alum's sack records.
Miami, Fla. – Well over a month since the last spring practice and weeks ahead of fall camp, but the Miami Hurricanes are buzzing ahead of the football season. Following the National Championship loss to the Indiana Hoosiers, the program took severe measures to revamp the roster. However, the future continues to shine brighter.
Following an official visit last Wednesday to Coral Gables, June 3, the Hurricanes flipped five-star edge rusher Jaiden Bryant away from LSU, shut down his recruitment, and made the 2027 class one of the nation’s best. They’re currently ranked second on On3 and third in 247Sports’ rankings. Already with 18 commits, the Hurricanes could be looking ahead to the 2028 recruiting class.
The program held its annual Legends Camp, working alongside several prospects, including uncommitted Asher Ghioto. He’s a five-star edge rusher from Jacksonville and currently attends The Bolles School, a private college preparatory institution located in Duval County. In two seasons, Ghioto logged 150 total tackles, 113 solos and 37 assists, 56 tackles for loss, 30 sacks, 37 hurries, three passes defended, and an interception in 27 games, according to MaxPreps.
Ghioto is listed at 6-5, 245 pounds, and ranked third nationally, the best edge rusher, and third in the state of Florida for the 2028 class, according to 247Sports Composite. He took the opportunity to work closely with Hurricanes defensive line coach Jason Taylor, who played a significant role in Akheem Mesidor and All-American Rueben Bain Jr.’s development–both first-round selections in the 2026 NFL Draft.
The five-star recruit already has over 50 offers, including from the Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles, Clemson Tigers, Georgia Bulldogs, Ohio State Buckeyes, Oregon Ducks, and several others.
As the high school year concludes, Ghioto will have extra free time to improve as a player and remain one of the nation’s best recruits. In a short interview following the Legends Camp, he set a strong goal ahead of his junior year:
“I’m coming to break Rueben’s sack record,” Ghioto said.
As a senior at Miami Central High School, Bain Jr. set a school record for the most sacks, 29.5, in a single season. Ghioto came close following a strong sophomore campaign, finishing with 23.
The Hurricanes are becoming a home for edge rushers. Despite the departures of Mesidor and Bain Jr., they already have others looking to fill the voids: Marquise Lightfoot, Hayden Lowe, and Missouri transfer Damon Wilson II. Ghioto could be looking to add to the recent trend.
