Fresh off a historic title appearance, a revamped roster and favorable schedule position the Miami Hurricanes for a deep postseason run culminating in a high-stakes South Florida homecoming.
Miami, Fla. – On Jan. 19, the Miami Hurricanes became the first team to play a National Championship game in a home stadium environment in the Championship Bowl Series and College Football Playoff history. Despite falling short of the ultimate prize–not having the proper fanbase takeover at Hard Rock Stadium–reaching the stage left a significant mark on the program.
In the following weeks, the Hurricanes revamped the roster with transfer portal acquisitions, including All-ACC wide receiver Cooper Barkate and quarterback Darian Mensah. Despite losing several key players from last season, the team is viewed as an early National Championship contender. If the new roster manages to carve out another deep postseason run, an opportunity to host another game may present itself.
The College Football Playoffs announced its official schedule on Monday, including the Capital One Orange Bowl semifinals, which will be held at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens. The game is set to stream exclusively on TNT, truTV, and HBO Max on Jan. 14, 2027, at 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time.
The exact official bracket of the upcoming College Football Playoffs was not revealed. Last year, the Capital One Orange Bowl was in the quarterfinals–where the Oregon Ducks dominated 23-0 against the Texas Tech Red Raiders. It was played at Hard Rock Stadium.
Given the strength of schedule, or lack thereof, the Hurricanes are projected to win the Atlantic Coast Conference, which would be a first in program history and provide an automatic bid into the College Football Playoffs, potentially a first-round bye. Depending on where the team falls in the bracket–determined by the Selection Committee’s rankings–will reveal whether local fans will have the opportunity to attend a high-stakes game right down the neighborhood.
The Hurricanes will start the upcoming season against the Stanford Cardinal, in California, on Sept. 4, streaming on ESPN at 9:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Unlike last season, they will close the regular season with three consecutive home games, which are against the Duke Blue Devils, Virginia Tech Hokies, and Boston College Eagles in late November. Despite a weak-looking schedule, the Hurricanes will face a couple of elite opponents in the Clemson Tigers and Notre Dame Fighting Irish–both on the road.
If they manage to win both, it will provide an undoubted resume to present to the Selection Committee.
There are still a couple of months away before fall camp, but spring practices showed glimpses of–what is supposed to be– one of the best teams in the nation.
