Can the Miami Hurricanes steal this five-star defensive lineman from the Texas Tech Red Raiders? Brewster, a nationally top-ranked talent, schedules a crucial visit.

An intriguing aspect of high school recruiting is when a player flips a commitment from one program to another. The Miami Hurricanes look to pull off that stint with five-star defensive lineman Jalen Brewster. He committed to the Texas Tech Red Raiders on Oct. 4, 2025. However, there may be some reconsiderations.

It was reported on Thursday that Brewster secured an official visit with the Hurricanes during the summer, on May 29.

The Texas native currently attends Cedar Hill High School. He's ranked fourth in the nation, first among his position, and second in the state for the class of 2027, according to 247Sports Composite.

Brewster recorded 16 total tackles, 14 solos and two assists, seven tackles for loss, two sacks, two passes defended, and four quarterback hurries in five games as a sophomore. Also, he was utilized on the offensive side of the field as a running back, rushing 15 times for 100 yards, 6.7 yards per carry, scoring four touchdowns. The current high school junior is listed at 6-3, 302 pounds.

The five-star recruit made a few unofficial visits with the Oklahoma Sooners, Oregon Ducks, Indiana Hoosiers, and Texas A&M Aggies before committing to the Red Raiders. He received interest and offers from other notable programs, such as the Alabama Crimson Tide, Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles, LSU Tigers, Georgia Bulldogs, and Texas Longhorns, among many others.

The Hurricanes were among the best defenses last season, causing havoc for opposing quarterbacks from the line of scrimmage. Despite losing key players for the upcoming NFL draft, especially homegrown star edge rusher Rueben Bain Jr., there are many looking to step up.

Brewster could be intrigued with the idea of developing under the leadership of defensive line coach and Pro Football Hall of Famer Jason Taylor. He played a tremendous role in the Hurricanes' defense, especially with Bain Jr. and co-star edge rusher Akheem Mesidor.

The five-star recruit is known to be explosive, strong, and has an impressive combination of size and athleticism.

The Red Raiders are coming off their seventh double-digit winning season in program history, finishing with a 12-2 record, and won the Big 12 Championship. However, the team suffered a difficult 12-0 loss to the Oregon Ducks in the College Football Playoffs, the Orange Bowl quarterfinal.

Meanwhile, the Hurricanes are coming off a National Championship appearance, carving a historic run. Despite moments of struggles offensively, the defense came through with multiple heroic moments.

Brewster could be a part of something special if he decides to flip. The official visit could pay massive dividends for the Hurricanes.
