After striking out 60 batters for the Miami Hurricanes, Lyndon Glidewell enters the transfer portal as a graduate student following a legal victory to secure a fifth season.
In the wake of more news about athletes returning to college sports through local courts, former Miami Hurricanes closing pitcher (righty) Lyndon Glidewell was reportedly granted an injunction and will enter the transfer portal as a graduate student, according to Around the Horns.
After not being selected in the 2026 MLB Draft, the 22-year-old seeks another opportunity.
Screenshot From Around the Horns IGGlidewell spent the most recent college baseball season with the Coral Gables program, transferring from Austin Peay. He led all pitchers with 30 appearances and posted a 4.19 ERA (3-0) while pitching in 38.2 innings. Glidewell allowed 27 hits and 18 earned runs, including seven home runs, but struck out 60 batters.
Despite the Hurricanes' inconsistencies on the mound, the Temecula (Calif.) native had five saves, four of which came against Power Four opponents, and 10 games without giving up a hit while playing in at least one inning. However, it's unlikely that Glidewell will return to Coral Gables ahead of the 2027 college baseball season. Head coach J.D. Arteaga landed 10 arms in the transfer portal, including projected Friday ace Blake Morningstar from Wake Forest.
Glidewell has an arsenal that consists of a sinker, a changeup, and a breaking ball.
Before a one-season Hurricanes tenure, the four-year college veterans played for the Governors in the Atlantic Sun Conference in 2025. In 14 total appearances, including 13 starts, Glidewell posted a 3.36 ERA (8-0), logged one complete game, a shutout, and a save in 77.2 total innings pitched. He allowed 61 hits and 29 earned runs (31 runs), four home runs, and struck out 64 batters.
Glidewell received Second-Team All-Conference honors.
The 2023 and 2024 seasons were spent at Orange Coast College, a community institution located in Costa Mesa (Calif.).
Glidewell has steadily climbed the ranks while meeting the challenge of high-quality competition. He will likely receive strong interest from programs looking to add bullpen depth, especially for closers. Glidewell has four months before the 2027 college baseball season is officially underway.
However, given the process of all these injunction/temporary restraining order cases, programs could wait to learn more about Glidewell’s situation and how it will sustain eligibility.
The college sports world has drastically changed since the NCAA implemented the five-year age-based system in late June. Several athletes have sought to take advantage, as Glidewell becomes the latest case, with several others pending.
It's an ongoing cycle of adapting while answers are still being sought.
