The Miami Hurricanes' defense was capable of causing havoc for opposing quarterbacks from the line of scrimmage, with edge rushing stars Rueben Bain Jr. and Akheem Mesidor running the show. However, both will depart from the program, heading to the NFL. There are others ready to step in their place, such as Marquise Lightfoot, Hayden Lowe, and Damon Wilson II.
It shows how great edge rushers can develop with the program, which could be an intriguing aspect for four-star KJ Green in the recruiting process. He's ranked 62nd in the nation, seventh among his position, and fifth from the state of Georgia for the class of 2027, according to 247Sports Composite.
Green has an official visit scheduled with the Hurricanes during the spring, on April 3, among other programs looking to meet with the young prospect.
The four-star edge rusher currently attends Stephenson High School, a public institution in DeKalb County. He's recorded 204 total tackles, 153 solos and 51 assists, 63 tackles for loss, four quarterback hurries, and 31 sacks in 25 total games throughout three seasons.
Green has made a few unofficial visits, including with the South Carolina Gamecocks and Georgia Bulldogs, who have upcoming official spring visits scheduled.
The current high school junior is known to be an explosive edge rusher who is physical, powerful, and has the ability to cause havoc. He's listed at 6-4, 215 pounds, and expected to add more muscle at the collegiate level.
Defensive line coach and Pro Football Hall of Famer Jason Taylor has played a role in Green's recruitment process on behalf of the Hurricanes. He was a key factor in the development of Bain Jr. and Mesidor last season, both having career seasons. Also, they were critical in the Hurricanes' run towards the National Championship.
Green's Spring visit schedule:
- Texas Longhorns; March 12
- Notre Dame Fighting Irish; March 21
- Auburn Tigers; March 23
- Alabama Crimson Tide; March 25
- Hurricanes; April 3
- Bulldogs; April 9
- Gamecocks; April 10
- Oregon Ducks; April 27
- LSU Tigers; April 23
He will announce his final decision this summer, on Aug. 8, on CBSSports College Football YouTube. The official visit could provide a boost for the Hurricanes, especially with all the programs battling to land the four-star recruit. They could be considered the leaders in the sweepstakes, but there is tons of time between the present and the summer announcement.
