Hurricanes Meeting With ACC Defensive Monster cover image

The Miami Hurricanes target Francis Brewu, a Pitt Panthers' defensive force, could join the program's energized defensive line. Plus, a mystery contender looms.

As the Miami Hurricanes are less than 48 hours from facing the Ole Miss Rebels in the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl semifinals, the wonky business side of college football continues to stake the news outlets by storm. The transfer portal has officially opened, with tremendous talent available and ready for new chapters. As the College Football Playoffs reach the final four, it's only added work for these programs' already busy schedules.

As there have been a few players from the Hurricanes roster planning or have already entered the transfer portal, they will also meet with a few worthy candidates. The latest news is that they will have an opportunity to discuss business with defensive lineman Francis Brewu. He's spent the last couple of seasons with the Pitt Panthers, recording 51 total tackles, 20 solos and 31 assists, 10 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, and one forced fumble in 25 games.

The 19-year-old was a three-star recruit coming out of Thomas Worthington High School. After two years, the Ohio native finished with 92 total tackles, 54 solos and 38 assists, 29 tackles for loss, and 14.5 sacks in 13 games.

Brewu didn't receive significant interest from powerhouse programs, outside of the Hurricanes and Panthers, who he committed to on March 16th, 2023. However, the northeastern program missed out on the College Football Playoffs since his arrival, despite playing in a couple of bowl games.

In the final game of the regular season, Brewu recorded three total tackles, one solo and two assists, and one tackle for loss.

The Hurricanes' defensive line has seen a complete turnaround, as well as the program as a whole. Edge rushers Rueben Bain Jr. and Akheem Mesidor have been the biggest story throughout the regular season, causing havoc, attacking opposing quarterbacks from opposite sides. Along with others, such as Justin Scott, Ahmad Moten, Wesley Bissainthe, Marquise Lightfoot, etc.

Also, there's outstanding leadership with defensive line coach Jason Taylor, helping the big guys develop and chase greatness. The NFL Hall of Famer doesn't brag about his resume, but provides amazing wisdom as a few players prepare to take the next step in their football careers.

All could be appealing to Brewu in the recruiting process. However, in addition to the report, he's set to meet with another title contender. It's not publicly known who, but since the Oregon Ducks, Ole Miss Rebels, and Indiana Hoosiers are part of the final four with the Hurricanes, it narrows down the idea.

Brewu has a chance to remain in the ACC but take a massive leap.
