The Miami Hurricanes are more than a week away from facing the undefeated Indiana Hoosiers in the National Championship game. It gives the program more than plenty of time to prepare, heal injuries and bruises, and handle transfer portal business. They've already secured commitment from a couple of high-value players, such as cornerback Omar Thornton from Boston College and wide receiver Vandrevius Jacobs from South Carolina. The Hurricanes continue to make great business by landing a talented veteran in Cam Vaughn.
It's been reported that the wide receiver has committed to the Hurricanes after spending the past regular season with the West Virginia Mountaineers. He caught 35 passes for 541 yards, 15.5 yards per catch, scoring four touchdowns, appearing in all 12 regular-season games. However, the great production didn't result in winning, as the team finished with a 4-8 overall record.
The Georgia native was barely recruited coming out of Temple High School, playing at the quarterback position, completing 207 out of 401 passes, 51.6 percent, for 3,369 yards, throwing for 25 touchdowns and 15 interceptions in 28 games throughout three years. He also rushed 309 times for 2,261 yards, scoring 26 touchdowns.
Vaughn received interest and an offer from the Jacksonville State Gamecocks alone during his recruitment process and officially enrolled on June 30th, 2023. After only appearing in three games to begin playing at the collegiate level, he redshirted and saw an increased role the following year. In the 2024 season, Vaughn caught 48 catches for 803 yards, 16.7 yards per carry, scoring five touchdowns, playing in 14 games. The Gamecocks won the Conference USA over the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, with a final score of 51-12, then faced the Ohio Bobcats in the Cure Bowl, but lost after a final score of 30-27.
After two seasons, Vaughn entered the transfer portal and joined the Mountaineers in the Big 12. Now, making his way down to South Florida, joining the Hurricanes, who are on a historic College Football Playoff run. Essentially, the team is nearly set to be successful for next season. As cornerback Keionte Scott and wide receivers Keelan Marion and CJ Daniels are set to conclude their collegiate careers, Vaughn, Thornton, and Jacobs are the next chapter.
The only position left for the Hurricanes to knock out is quarterback, with reports circulating about Sam Leavitt visiting. As the team prepares for the biggest game in college football, the business side of the sport continues to take headlines by storm, with more to come.
The National Championship stage is set at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida, on Monday night, Jan 19th, 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time on ESPN.
