The Miami Hurricanes bolsters its secondary with hometown safety Conrad Hussey, adding depth and talent in the chase for a National Championship.

After the official announcement of the 2026-27 college football schedule, the Miami Hurricanes continue to collect talent through the transfer portal. They're revamping for next season, with hopes of completing unfinished business, such as winning a National Championship.

It was reported on Tuesday that safety Conrad Hussey has signed with the program. He spent the past season with the Oregon State Beavers, but only appeared in three games, against the Oregon Ducks, Houston Cougars, and Appalachian State Mountaineers, recording 5 total tackles, three solos and two assists, 0.5 tackles for loss, and one pass defended.

Hussey was a four-star recruit coming out of St. Thomas Aquinas High School, recording 55 total tackles, 36 solos and 19 assists, five passes defended, and seven interceptions in 24 total games. The 21-year-old was recruited by a few high-profile programs, such as the Florida Gators, Auburn Tigers, and Penn State Nittany Lions, before committing to the Florida State Seminoles on Dec. 22, 2022.

The Hurricanes had interest and made an offer to the Fort Lauderdale, Florida native.

Hussey spent two seasons with the North Florida program, recording 40 total tackles, 25 solos and 15 assists, three passes defended, two forced fumbles, and one interception in 24 total games, including four starts.

The Hurricanes found tremendous success with a couple of transfer portal defensive backs this past season in Keionte Scott and Jakobe Thomas. Both played critical roles in the team's outstanding defense, especially with the secondary ranking among the best in the ACC.

It was reported on Sunday that defensive backs Damari Brown, Xavier Lucas, and OJ Frederique are returning for next season. Also, the program acquired safety Omar Thornton from the transfer portal, who committed on Jan. 10th. He spent two seasons with the Boston College Eagles, recording 111 total tackles, 77 solos and 34 assists, 11.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, one interception, one pass defended, and five forced fumbles in 23 games, including 14 starts.

The addition of Hussey adds great depth to the Hurricanes' secondary, especially at the safety position.

The National Championship game exposed some weaknesses, mainly with Lucas being suspended for the first half due to a targeting call in the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl semifinals against the Ole Miss Rebels, and Frederique being limited towards the end due to injury.

The Hurricanes are poised for another deep College Football Playoff run, with dominance within the ACC.
