Hometown standout Neimann Lawrence narrows recruit list as the Miami Hurricanes battle powerhouse programs for the elite signal-caller. However, a crowded quarterback room could get in the way of things.
Miami, Fla. – In the past week, the Miami Hurricanes have been trending towards a top-10 2027 recruiting class. The program is currently up to 17 commits, including a couple of five-stars in cornerback Donte Wright and wide receiver Nick Lennear. The group is currently ranked third nationally with a 92.81 class score, according to On3.
However, an opportunity to stay ahead of the recruiting curve presents itself.
Local Miami native Neimann Lawrence is a four-star quarterback for the 2028 class. It was reported on Wednesday that he’s set a commitment date for June 25 and named five programs in the final running: Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Texas A&M Aggies, Michigan Wolverines, Texas Longhorns, and Hurricanes.
Lawrence attended Ransom Everglades High School as a freshman, completing 162 of 252 passes, 64.3 completion percentage, throwing for 2,777 yards and 31 touchdowns, including eight interceptions, in 10 games. He then transferred to Miami Northwestern High School, completing 131 of 185 passes, 70.8 completion percentage, throwing for 1,971 yards and 32 touchdowns, including one interception, in 10 games.
The highly touted Florida prospect has now transferred to American Heritage Schools–a private institution located in Broward County.
Lawrence is listed at 6-1, 202 pounds, and ranked 67th nationally, sixth among quarterbacks, and seventh in the state of Florida for the 2028 recruiting class, according to Rivals Industry Rankings. He received interest and scholarship offers from numerous programs, including the Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles, Alabama Crimson Tide, Ohio State Buckeyes, Georgia Bulldogs, Oregon Ducks, and Virginia Tech Hokies, among several others.
The Miami native made several unofficial visits to the Coral Gables campus and facility, the latest being on March 5. However, the future of the four-star recruit might not align with the Hurricanes. The program acquired a top-market transfer portal quarterback–Darian Mensah–for a third consecutive year. Although it might be a one-and-done situation, there are others already lined up behind him: Luke Nickel, Judd Anderson, and Dereon Coleman.
Following the upcoming season, it’s likely that the Hurricanes will rely on them to compete for the starting job.
Given the other finalists, Lawrence may be looking at a new chapter outside of the Sunshine State. The Hurricanes were the first to present him with a scholarship offer on June 13, 2023, but current circumstances and recent transactions might get in the way of securing a hometown prospect.
Also, the program already has a quarterback commit for the 2028 class from three-star Knox Annis.
It’s likely a new beginning for Lawrence will be announced on June 25th’s commitment date.
