The Miami Hurricanes target five-star 2028 quarterback Neimann Lawrence, a dual-threat talent showcasing elite passing and rushing skills, vying for his commitment.

The Miami Hurricanes have been successful with transfer portal quarterbacks, such as Cam Ward and Carson Beck, looking to continue the trend with Darian Mensah. However, the strategy may not be sustainable in the long run. Coach Mario Cristobal understands the importance of developing from within, which will be a vocal point this upcoming season with young quarterbacks, such as Luke Nickel and Dereon Coleman.

He believes they will benefit by learning from Mensah, who won an ACC Championship with the Duke Blue Devils, and strives to be a future first-round NFL selection.

The Hurricanes will likely eventually work with quarterbacks already on the roster, which could feature Neimann Lawrence. He's a five-star recruit for the class of 2028, ranked 27th in the nation, third among his position, and eighth in the state of Florida, according to 247Sports Composite. The sophomore high schooler has narrowed down his list to six programs: the Hurricanes, Texas A&M Aggies, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Ohio State Buckeyes, Kentucky Wildcats, and Oregon Ducks.

Lawrence is from Plantation, Florida, and is currently attending American Heritage High School in the Broward area. He completed 131 of 185 passes, 70.8 percent, for 1,971 yards, throwing for 32 touchdowns in 10 games this past season. The 16-year-old is capable of extending plays with his legs, rushing nine times for 109 yards, 11.6 yards per carry, and scoring a touchdown.

The Hurricanes could be a main attraction for Lawrence, given the high-quality protection from the offensive line. They were among the best in the nation last season for Beck, four declaring for the upcoming NFL draft, and right tackle Francis Mauigoa projected to be a first-round selection. The better the protection, the more time Lawrence or any other quarterback will have to operate.

The Hurricanes have more offensive linemen ready to step up for Mensah next season. Coach Cristobal has heavy pride in winning battles in the trenches.

Lawrence made unofficial visits with the Ducks, TCU Horned Frogs, Michigan Wolverines, three with the Buckeyes, Longhorns, Penn State Natty Lions, twice with the Gators, and three with the Hurricanes.

The rising quarterback will continue to be a main attraction for multiple programs. Lawrence has more than enough time to schedule official visits, narrow down his list, evaluate each option, make a decision, and then announce a commitment.

The Hurricanes have received four commitments for the recruiting class of 2027, including four-star wide receiver Ah'Mari Stevens, who would potentially be a great weapon for Lawrence.

The future is looking bright, but it could get brighter.
