The Miami Hurricanes vie for a four-star linebacker, a defensive force from Chicago. Will this elite talent join the program's defensive resurgence?

As the football recruiting class of 2027 continues to narrow down options and make visits with programs, the Miami Hurricanes have a busy schedule approaching. Among the talent is four-star linebacker Roman Igwebuike.

It was reported on Friday, Feb. 27, that the prospect is eyeing 12 programs: the Tennessee Volunteers, USC Trojans, the reigning National Champion Indiana Hoosiers, Clemson Tigers, Missouri Tigers, Georgia Bulldogs, Michigan Wolverines, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Ohio State Buckeyes, Ole Miss Rebels, Florida Gators, and Hurricanes.

Igwebuike is a middle linebacker who attends Mount Carmel High School, a private all-boys college preparatory institution located in Chicago, Illinois. He recorded 15 total tackles, seven solos and eight assists as a sophomore. The four-star recruit is ranked 95th nationally, sixth in his position, and fifth in the state for the class of 2027, according to 247Sports Composite.

Igwebuike received interest and offers from the Florida State Seminoles, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Oregon Ducks, Texas Longhorns, and Oklahoma Sooners, among many others, but didn't make the latest cut.

Also, he took an unofficial visit with the Purdue Boilermakers, who aren't listed in the final 12.

The Hurricanes improved significantly on the defensive side of the field last season, especially in defensive coordinator Corey Hetherman's first year with the program. Also, he's the linebackers coach, which would make him responsible for developing a prospect such as Igwebuike. He previously made a couple of game-day visits with the Hurricanes: the first was the season opener against the Fighting Irish, and the second was on Sept. 20 against the Gators, both of which the Hurricanes won.

Plus, Hetherman was in the running for the Broyles Award, which goes to the top assistant coach in the nation.

Igwebuike is listed at 6-3, 220 pounds, and could gain extra muscle to better play at the collegiate level.

Coming off a National Championship appearance, the Hurricanes are looking to remain competitive. They've had success in recruiting defenders from Illinois, such as edge rusher Marquise Lightfoot and defensive lineman Justin Scott, who were rotation players for the team last season.

Igwebuike has yet to schedule any future visits with any of the programs listed in the final 12.

Coach Mario Cristobal and the Hurricanes successfully established a new standard, especially on the defensive side of the field. They have numerous players looking to step into bigger roles, especially edge rushers Rueben Bain Jr. and Akheem Mesidor, who are projected to be early selections in the upcoming NFL Draft.

Igwebuike would be a great addition to the team, but the four-star recruit has time before making a final decision.
