Elite running back Myson Johnson-Cook is choosing Saturday from five finalists. The Miami Hurricanes pursue the explosive four-star to bolster the backfield.
The Miami Hurricanes head towards the end of spring training, but remain aggressive on the high school recruiting trail. They’re among the finalists for numerous prospects, including Myson Johnson-Cook, who’s set to announce an official decision on Saturday, April 25. He’s an elite four-star running back who currently attends East St. Louis Senior High School, located in St. Clair County, Illinois. Johnson-Cook rushed 126 times for 1,341 yards, scoring 20 touchdowns.
The rising running back recruit is ranked 40th nationally, third among his position, and first in the state of Illinois for the 2027 recruiting class, according to Rivals Industry Rankings. Johnson-Cook has five final programs in his recruitment: Ole Miss Rebels, Auburn Tigers, Kentucky Wildcats, LSU Tigers, and Hurricanes.
The four-star prospect received significant interest and scholarship offers from all over the country, including the Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles, Ohio State Buckeyes, Oregon Ducks, Texas A&M Aggies, Alabama Crimson Tide, SMU Mustangs, Texas Tech Red Raiders, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Wisconsin Badgers, Minnesota Golden Gophers, and Baylor Bears, along with several others.
The Hurricanes have emerged as a desirable destination for running back recruits, especially following a historic College Football Playoff run and reaching the National Championship game. In all four Bowl games, homegrown star Mark Fletcher Jr. left a significant impact. He rushed 75 times for a new College Football Playoff record 507 yards, scoring three total touchdowns.
The team currently has one of the most talented running back cores in the nation with Fletcher, ChaMar Brown, Girard Pringle Jr., and Jordan Lyle.
Johnson-Cook took a visit with the Hurricanes to attend Junior Day on March 5.
The program is on pace to finish with a top-10 2027 recruiting class in the nation. They’ve struck gold in landing prospects in Illinois, with the latest being four-star quarterback Israel Abrams. Landing another top-market prospect, such as Johnson-Cook, would elevate the group among the elites.
The Hurricanes seek to remain competitive in the long run and recruiting highly-touted prospects is key to sustaining success.
Johnson-Cook has an N.I.L value of $224,000, according to Rivals, which doesn’t pose as an issue for the program. He will have 10 days to evaluate the final five options before announcing an official decision.
The Hurricanes will be on commitment watch as spring training reaches the end. There aren’t any official streaming details available at the moment. Regardless, the program will be on the lookout.
