Kansas City Chiefs scout Miami Hurricanes star edge rusher Rueben Bain Jr., eyeing a top draft pick to bolster their struggling pass rush and Super Bowl aspirations.

The NFL Draft is two weeks away, with several Miami Hurricanes prospects looking to take on the highest level of football. However, only a few will be selected on the first day, including Rueben Bain Jr. The star edge rusher is projected to be a top-10 pick. He’s coming off an All-American season: 54 total tackles, 30 solos and 24 assists, 15.5 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks, a forced fumble, one pass broken up, two passes defended, and an interception in the season opener against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Also, Bain Jr. was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Year, All-ACC First Team, and the Ted Hendricks Award winner.

There will be numerous NFL organizations that could be intrigued enough to select the 21-year-old with a high pick, such as the Kansas City Chiefs. The team is coming off a 6-11 season, missing the playoffs for the first time since 2014, and losing the AFC West division for the first time since 2015. Despite the offensive woes, especially after superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffered a torn ACL in a week 15 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers.

As the franchise seeks to remain a Super Bowl contender, they own the ninth pick in the upcoming draft, a potential landing spot for Bain Jr. NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported on Thursday that the Chiefs hosted a Top-30 visit with the former Hurricanes star edge rusher.

Despite an underwhelming season, the team’s defense shed some light. They finished the regular season 12th in fewest passing yards allowed, ninth in rushing yards allowed, sixth in scoring defense, and eighth in red zone defense. However, the Chiefs tied for the fifth-fewest sacks with 35.

It’s an area that Bain Jr. could solve instantly.

There have been concerns surrounding the prospect’s arm length. At the NFL Combine, he measured at 30 ⅞ inches. Regardless, Bain Jr. proved to be a dominant force at the line of scrimmage. He didn’t participate in the NFL Combine, but fully performed at Pro Day in the Hurricanes’ practice facility.

Bain Jr. confirmed to have meetings with the Chiefs, Dallas Cowboys, and Tennessee Titans, which would result in a reunion with former Hurricanes teammate and quarterback Cam Ward.

The Miami native battled through adversity and injuries after three years with the program and prevailed as one of the best prospects in the upcoming NFL Draft. The Hurricanes have a rich history of developing football greatness, with Bain Jr. looking to be added to it.
