The Miami Hurricanes battle the Ohio State Buckeyes, Georgia Bulldogs, and others for four-star tight end Jordan Karhoff, aiming to bolster its inexperienced depth chart.

As spring training approaches, the Miami Hurricanes remain aggressive in recruiting top high school prospects, including Jordan Karhoff. He’s a four-star tight end who currently attends St. Francis DeSales High School, a private, Catholic institution located in Columbus, Ohio. Karhoff caught eight passes for 77 yards in seven total games over two seasons.

The four-star recruit is listed at 6-5, 227 pounds, and ranked 226th nationally, 12th among tight ends, and seventh in the state of Ohio for the class of 2027, according to Rivals Industry Rankings. It was reported on Friday that Karhoff has narrowed down to five programs: Texas A&M Aggies, Ohio State Buckeyes, Virginia Tech Hokies, Georgia Bulldogs, and Hurricanes. He’s received offers from several others, including the Michigan State Spartans, Missouri Tigers, Louisville Cardinals, Michigan Wolverines, Syracuse Orange, Ole Miss Rebels, and Auburn Tigers, among others.

Coming off a National Championship appearance, the Hurricanes have gained significant attention from top-market high school recruits. Despite losing key players on both sides of the field to the upcoming NFL Draft, including a couple of All-Americans in edge rusher Rueben Bain Jr. and right tackle Francis Mauigoa, the high level of competitiveness is expected to translate over to next season.

Despite landing top-tier transfer portal talent, including All-ACC quarterback Darian Mensah, the program recognizes the importance of high school recruitment and the long-term impact it provides. Plus, last season featured several impactful freshmen, such as running back Girard Pringle Jr., safety Bryce Fitzgerald, and star wide receiver Malachi Toney.

Regarding the tight end position, the depth chart is rather inexperienced.

Elija Lofton is coming off a career-season: catching 23 passes for 218 yards, scoring three total touchdowns. Outside of the 21-year-old, the core hasn’t seen real time on the field. There are a few players to be on the lookout for, such as Luka Gilbert, Gavin Mueller, and Cole McConnathy II, who is reportedly switching from edge rusher to play as a tight end.

Karhoff made several unofficial visits throughout 2025, including a few with the Buckeyes, none with the Hurricanes. It would make a significant impact on the recruiting process to show him around the Coral Gables campus and Hard Rock Stadium.

The program announced the official hiring of tight ends coach Mike Viti, who was previously the offensive line coach with the Army Black Knights. He will provide valuable insight into blocking for the tight end core, which was a missing component for the team last season.

Karhoff would provide a promising future for the Hurricanes, but the efforts will need to increase to secure a commitment.
