Four-star defensive tackle Jamar Thompson's decision looms. The Miami Hurricanes battles the Ohio State Buckeyes, Auburn Tigers, and Michigan Wolverines for the dominant defensive force.
The Miami Hurricanes were named finalists for four-star defensive tackle Jamar Thompson. He currently attends West Boca Raton Community High School, a public magnet institution located in Palm Beach County, Florida. Thompson recorded 128 total tackles, 53 solos and 75 assists, 37 tackles for loss, and 11 sacks in 39 games over three seasons.
The Delray Beach, Florida, native has four programs in the running: Ohio State Buckeyes, Auburn Tigers, Michigan Wolverines, and Hurricanes. It was reported on Sunday, April 12, that the defensive tackle will announce his commitment on August 18.
Thompson is listed at 6-3, 310 pounds, and ranked 189th nationally, 20th among defensive linemen, and 19th in the state for the class of 2027, according to Rivals Industry Rankings. He received interest and offers from numerous programs, including the Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles, South Florida Bulls, Alabama Crimson Tide, Ole Miss Rebels, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Georgia Bulldogs, Oklahoma Sooners, Texas Longhorns, Oklahoma State Cowboys, and USC Trojans, along with several others.
The four-star prospect made several unofficial visits with the Hurricanes, including on Saturday, April 4. He’s been primarily recruited by defensive tackles coach Damione Lewis on behalf of the program. Thompson has an opportunity to stay close to home.
The Hurricanes are on pace to have a top-10 recruiting class in the nation, especially after securing a commitment from four-star interior offensive lineman Sean Tatum.
Coming off a National Championship appearance, the defense experienced a significant turnaround under defensive coordinator Corey Hetherman. They went from 70 to the fifth-best scoring defense in the Football Bowl Subdivision. Part of the success was dominating matchups at the line of scrimmage, which has become the program’s identity.
The Hurricanes are in the lead to secure another homegrown talent for the 2027 recruiting class, alongside a couple of elite wide receivers in Nick Lennear and Ah’Mari Stevens.
Thompson has the power to get past offensive linemen and either swarm the quarterback or stop the run. However, there will be other areas for him to develop before officially playing on a football field at the collegiate level.
As a commitment announcement is four months away, the trajectory of Thompson’s recruitment could change on a given day. However, the Hurricanes will have opportunities to stay ahead. The program left a lasting impression on the high school junior, given the numerous visits.
As Thompson evaluates the four options, the Hurricanes are likely best suited for his talents.
