Missouri standout Damon Wilson II arrives in Coral Gables to fill a massive void, bringing elite pass-rushing skills to a defense eyeing its first ACC championship crown.
Miami, FL. – Following the National Championship game, the Miami Hurricanes dealt with various departures, including edge rushers Akheem Mesidor and All-American Rueben Bain Jr., to the 2026 NFL Draft. They were dominant forces at the line of scrimmage, wreaking havoc among opposing offenses. Both prospects ended up becoming first-round selections, separately taking on new journeys at the highest level of football.
However, Mesidor and Bain Jr. left voids for the Hurricanes to fill. Despite having a couple of in-house edge rushers in Marquise Lightfoot and Hayden Lowe, the program added reinforcements by adding transfer Damon Wilson II to the roster. The local Venice native is coming off a productive season with the Missouri Tigers: 23 total tackles, nine solos and 14 assists, 9.5 tackles for loss, nine sacks, two passes defended, and a three-yard interception against the Vanderbilt Commodores. He earned All-Southeastern Conference honors.
Wilson II is projected to be a full-time starter this upcoming season and make a significant leap in production; new career-highs. The 21-year-old has gained national attention, so much so that he was named 247Sports’ top 10 transfers. Despite the Hurricanes signing several high-caliber players through the portal, Wilson II was alone from the roster to finish among the best on the list. He understands there are big shoes to fill, but the challenge doesn’t faze him.
The opportunity to develop under defensive line coach and Pro Football Hall of Famer Jason Taylor was part of the reason why Wilson II decided to move down to South Florida. He played a significant role in Mesidor and Bain Jr. emerging as the best defenders in college football, forming a dangerous one-two punch.
Wilson II will conclude a soon-to-be four-year career with the Hurricanes, looking to earn first-round recognition in the 2027 NFL Draft. As the program is coming off the National Championship game, it presents an opportunity for the former four-star recruit to showcase elite pass-rushing skills.
The program is the early favorite to win its first Atlantic Coast Conference title in history, which would provide an automatic bid to the College Football Playoffs, potentially a first-round bye. Wilson II is looking to deliver an immediate impact, leading the Hurricanes to another chase for a National Championship.
The Hurricanes haven’t been legitimate contenders since joining the ACC in 2004. However, a new leaf has turned in Coral Gables, which Wilson II is soon to officially be a part of.
