Fueled by a $40.9 million roster valuation, the Miami Hurricanes are outspending rivals to secure elite transfers like Darian Mensah and top-tier recruits for a national title charge.
Miami, FL. – In today’s world of college sports, players have an opportunity to get paid similarly to professional athletes. The Name, Image, and Likeness package, or better known as NIL, has completely transformed the business. Given the lack of structure in college sports, there isn’t a limit to how much a program can spend on players, whether it’s high school recruits or transfer portal acquisitions.
According to The NIL Standard, the Miami Hurricanes have a $40.9 million roster value, which ranks fifth among the top-25 programs–most within the Atlantic Coast Conference. The site provided a breakdown of how much each player is estimated to earn.
Quarterback Darian Mensah sits at the very top of the list: $6 million. The 21-year-old is coming off an All-ACC caliber season with the Duke Blue Devils: completed 334 of 500 passes, 66.8 completion percentage, throwing for 3,973 yards and 34 touchdowns, including six interceptions, starting in all 14 games. Mensah led the program to its first ACC Football Championship since 1989.
Before entering the transfer portal, the California native was sued by Duke to remain on the Blue Devils roster. The case didn’t reach court, as both parties agreed on a settlement.
Mensah was a top-market player entering the transfer portal. He is reportedly earning more than Carson Beck and Cam Ward.
The second-highest paid player on the Hurricanes’ roster is freshman offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell. He was a five-star recruit coming from Nixa High School in Missouri. Cantwell was ranked second in the nation, the best among offensive tackles, and the best local player for the 2026 recruiting class, according to 247Sports Composite. He earned over 20 scholarship offers, which likely involved pricy NIL packages.
The 18-year-old logged 459 pancake blocks in four high school seasons, according to MaxPreps. Cantwell is projected to be the Hurricanes’ starting left tackle.
Local star wide receiver Malachi Toney and edge rusher Damon Wilson II are tied for third, supposedly making $1.5 million.
However, the biggest surprise of the list is how low running back Mark Fletcher Jr. fell; No. 17. The site has the local star senior making $685,428. Given the historic College Football Playoff run Fletcher Jr. had, it’s hard to believe the financial compensation didn’t come along with it.
It’s important to mention that the University of Miami is a private institution, so the exact amount players are earning isn’t entirely disclosed. However, there shouldn’t be a doubt that the Hurricanes have one of the most expensive rosters coming off a National Championship appearance, and with hopes of returning.
