A four-star recruit, Treyvon Maddox, enters the transfer portal seeking playing time after a year without games. Where will the talented forward land next?
The NCAA basketball transfer portal officially opened and several players are seeking new opportunities. Last season, coach Jai Lucas utilized it to revamp the entire roster, bringing in seniors Tre Donaldson, Malik Reneau, and Ernest Udeh Jr., all of whom were the leaders in the program’s turnaround. However, he will have other voids to fill with the departures of junior guards Tru Washington and Noam Dovrat, both entering the transfer portal, and the latest being Treyvon Maddox.
It was reported on Tuesday that the 19-year-old small forward has entered the transfer portal. He didn’t appear in any games last season, leaving the Orlando native seeking a new opportunity.
Maddox was a four-star recruit coming from Oak Ridge High School, a public institution located in Orange County, Florida. The small forward prospect ranked 125th nationally, 33rd among small forwards, and 21st in the state, according to 247Sports Composite. He averaged 9.6 points on 48 percent shooting, 34 percent from three-point range, and 3.7 rebounds in 79 games over three seasons. Maddox received interest and offers from the Florida State Seminoles, South Florida Bulls, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Boston College Eagles, Virginia Tech Hokies, and LSU Tigers.
He originally committed to the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks before officially signing with the Hurricanes on July 6, 2025.
Maddox was part of the same high school recruiting class as five-star forward Shelton Henderson and four-star guard Dante Allen. However, the 19-year-old didn’t see nearly as much playing time. Both have committed to returning to the program for their sophomore season.
Coming off a historic 26-9 turnaround, the Hurricanes seek to remain competitive and build off the recent success. Despite not playing, Maddox experienced what it takes to win at the Division I collegiate level and reach the NCAA Tournament. He has the potential to be an impactful rotation player, but it has yet to be seen.
There is always the possibility that Maddox withdraws from the transfer portal and returns to the Hurricanes roster. However, the 19-year-old will likely evaluate all options in his recruitment before considering a reunion.
The forward is listed at 6-6, 180 pounds, and has the potential to be a three-and-D wing.
Given the lack of any playing time last season, Maddox enters the transfer portal as an unranked prospect. He will likely land an opportunity elsewhere, but the recruitment might not be as smooth as it was coming out of high school.
