A top four-star edge rusher tours the Miami Hurricanes' facilities, eyeing a defensive line bolstered by coaching legends and a winning culture.

Another week of spring training unfolds and the Miami Hurricanes continue to host several high school prospects, including Mekai Brown. He’s a four-star edge rusher who currently attends Greenwich Country Day School, an independent, private, and co-educational day institution located in Fairfield County, Connecticut. Brown has recorded 44 total tackles, 23 solos and 21 assists, 8.5 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks, and 16 hurries in 14 games over two seasons.

The high school junior will take a trip around the Coral Gables campus and facility on Friday, April 3.

Brown is listed at 6-6, 235 pounds, has experience playing at linebacker, and ranked 48th nationally, seventh among edge rushers, and first in the state of Connecticut for the class of 2027, according to Rivals Industry Rankings. He’s received interest and offers from numerous programs, including the Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles, LSU Tigers, Virginia Tech Hokies, Ohio State Buckeyes, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, USC Trojans, Texas A&M Aggies, Ole Miss Rebels, South Carolina Gamecocks, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Texas Tech Red Raiders, and reigning National Champion Indiana Hoosiers, along with others.

As the four-star prospect travels to South Florida, he will have an opportunity to watch the Hurricanes practice, especially the defensive line under coach and Pro Football Hall of Famer Jason Taylor. He played a significant role in All-American Rueben Bain Jr. and Akheem Mesidor’s development. Last season, they combined for 117 total tackles, 68 solos and 49 assists, 33 tackles for loss, and 22 sacks. Both are projected to be first-round selections in the upcoming NFL Draft.

Brown has a long list of unofficial visits followed by Friday’s with the Hurricanes:

- Saturday, April 4: Penn State Natty Lions

- Wednesday, April 8: South Carolina Gamecocks

- Friday, April 17: Kentucky Wildcats

- Friday, April 24: Notre Dame

- Wednesday, April 29: UCLA Bruins

Brown has yet to schedule any type of visit with the other Florida programs.

Coming off a National Championship appearance, the Hurricanes seek to remain in contention. Part of what led to a historic College Football Playoff run was the defensive turnaround led by first-year defensive coordinator Corey Hetherman. Despite the departures of Bain Jr. and Mesidor, the production is expected to carry over into next season.

The Hurricanes are attracting several high school recruits, including Brown, given the complete change of narrative surrounding the program. The long list of visits will impact his recruiting process before reaching a final decision.
