Four-star QB Israel Abrams commits, bringing dual-threat talent and national championship aspirations to the Miami Hurricanes' promising 2027 class.
The Miami Hurricanes football program land it’s first quarterback commit for the recruiting class of 2027 with Israel Abrams. He’s a four-star high school prospect and ranked 45th nationally, third among his position, and second in the state of Illinois, according to Rivals Industry Rankings.
As a junior, Abrams completed 233 of 340 passes, 68.5 percent, throwing for 4,072 yards and 40 touchdowns at Montini Catholic High School. He’s a dual-threat quarterback who can extend plays by running. Abrams rushed 82 times for 224 yards, scoring 10 touchdowns in 14 games.
The four-star recruit made his announcement on the Pat McAfee Show on ESPN. When elaborating on his decision, Abrams has big ambitions for himself and believes the Hurricanes are the right program to help achieve them.
“I think what really did it for us was being down there [in Coral Gables],” he said. “The coaches were nothing but helpful and full of information. They did enough to make us believe in them. I think that’s a place I can pursue my dreams and do something I want to do, which is just win and win games with my teammates. That’s all I’m about, getting my guys better and my guys [making] me better. When I get to Miami, my only thing will be to try to win us a National Championship every year. I want to be in Heisman [Trophy] talks from the jump.”
Despite the Hurricanes acquiring a top-market quarterback through the transfer portal in three consecutive years, from Cam Ward and Carson Beck to Darian Mensah, Abrams could be a part of what breaks the cycle. Depending on what happens next offseason with Luke Nickel and Judd Anderson will determine how fast he climbs the depth chart.
Coming off a National Championship appearance, coach Mario Cristobal has successfully established a new winning foundation, culture, and standard moving forward.
As an Illinois native, the Hurricanes have landed impactful recruits from the state, such as edge rusher Marquise Lightfoot and defensive lineman Justin Scott, both of whom are currently on the roster.
Abrams will take an opportunity to develop directly under offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Shannon Dawson. He’s entering his fourth season with the program.
The four-star recruit joins the same group as a couple of elite wide receivers in Nick Lennear and Ah’Mari Stevens.
The future continues to shine bright for the Hurricanes, landing talent who will be ready to step in when called upon.
