The Miami Hurricanes football program secures its first 2028 commit, three-star quarterback Knox Annis, adding dynamic dual-threat potential to their future roster.

The Miami Hurricanes football program’s future appears to be strong, especially after securing four-star quarterback Israel Abrams’ commitment. The 2027 recruiting class is currently among the best in the nation, with more construction to go. Coming off a National Championship appearance, prospects view the program as a legitimate destination to develop and compete, including three-star quarterback Knox Annis.

It was reported on Thursday that the Jacksonville, Florida, native has committed to the Hurricanes as part of the 2028 recruiting class.

Annis currently attends Mandarin High School, a public institution located in Duval County. He’s completed 195 of 379 passes, 51.5 percent, throwing 3,552 yards and 31 touchdowns in 24 games over two seasons. The high school sophomore looks to extend plays with his legs, rushing 45 times for 477 yards, scoring four touchdowns.

The three-star prospect is listed at 6-3, 205 pounds, and ranked 466th nationally, 47th among quarterbacks, and 65th in the state of Florida for the class of 2028, according to Rivals Industry Rankings. He’s received interest and offers from several programs, including the Florida Gators, Boston College Eagles, Wake Forest Demon Deacons, Auburn Tigers, Pitt Panthers, and Northwestern Wildcats, among others.

Annis took several visits, primarily with the Hurricanes and Gators. After Thursday, he became the first player to commit to the Coral Gables program as part of the 2028 class. Offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Shannon Dawson primarily recruited the Jacksonville native.

It will be interesting to see if other programs present Annis with offers and schedule visits throughout the rest of his process, especially with extended opportunities.

Depending on what happens during the transfer portal after next season, the Hurricanes have plenty of options at quarterback to take over after Darian Mensah. They currently have Luke Nickel, Judd Anderson, and Dereon Coleman, among others.

Annis could stick to his commitment, develop with the program, and seek opportunities elsewhere when the time is right for him.

The Hurricanes have relied on top-market transfer portal quarterbacks to contend, starting with Cam Ward, then Carson Beck, and now Mensah. However, after next season, the recent trend could end.

The program seeks to remain competitive and achieve new heights, especially after recent success. A key factor in sustaining high-level production in college football is recruiting and developing high school prospects.

As the Hurricanes focus on building the 2027 recruiting class, they get an early start on the following year.
