Dawson Harman brings versatile defensive depth and a decorated JUCO power stroke back to the Sunshine State, bolstering J.D Arteaga’s roster ahead of a pivotal 2027 campaign.
MIAMI, Fla. – The Miami Hurricanes baseball program – similar to football and men’s basketball – has experienced a steady trajectory. Despite failing to reach the Super Regionals with back-to-back losses to the Florida Gators and Troy Trojans, the team finished with 39 total wins – the most since J.D. Arteaga was named the head coach in 2023.
However, the ultimate goal is to punch a ticket to Omaha, Nebraska, and compete in the College World Series.
Ahead of the MLB Combine – which junior third baseman Daniel Cuvet, senior left-handed pitcher Rob Evans, and junior catcher Alex Sosa are participating in – the Hurricanes have stacked arms through the transfer portal. However, Dawson Harman becomes just the second batter to join the program.
The local Lithia native returns to the Sunshine State after spending this season at South Carolina. He started in 40 games for the Gamecocks, batting .227 with a .779 OPS, including 29 hits in 128 at-bats, eight doubles, a triple, five home runs, 21 runs batted in, and 54 total bases.
Harman played at third base – currently occupied by rising sophomore Gabriel Milano. However, the 21-year-old has experience playing at second and shortstop at Bloomingdale High School and right field at High Point University.
Along the journey, Harman attended College of Central Florida for the 2025 season and batted .370 with a 1.336 OPS in 55 games for the Patriots, including 74 hits in 200 at-bats, 20 doubles, a triple, 24 home runs, 65 runs batted in, and a 47 on-base percentage. He earned First Team JUCO All-American honors and was named Florida JUCO Player of the Year.
Although the 2026 season isn’t completely over, as the College World Series between the North Carolina Tar Heels and Oklahoma Sooners, the Hurricanes get a head start in preparing for next year.
Coach Arteaga will have the opportunity to tinker with both the infield and outfield, especially with several departures: Jake Ogden, Max Galvin, Derek Williams, and Cuvet. Harman’s ability to play both inside and out will give him a higher chance of earning consistent playing time.
The newest member of the Hurricanes is currently playing summer baseball with the Wausau Woodchucks in the Northwoods League. In 16 games, he’s batting .299 with a .913 OPS, including 20 hits in 67 at-bats, five doubles, three home runs, 26 runs batted in, and 10 stolen bases (no caughts).
A new chapter at the University of Miami will soon begin for Harman, with Omaha hopes still arising.
