The Miami Hurricanes continue to build towards the future, scheduling numerous official and unofficial visits with high school recruits. Despite adding another top-market quarterback in All-ACC Darian Mensah, the strategy isn't a long-term solution
Coming off a National Championship, the program's image has completely turned around, emerging as a desirable destination for recruits, including four-star cornerback Jermaine Cobbins. It was reported on Wednesday that he will pay visits across the nation, including with the Hurricanes. However, a date has yet to be determined.
Cobbins currently attends Springfield High School, a public institution located in Robertson County. He has experience playing on both sides of the field as a cornerback and wide receiver. The four-star recruit caught 46 passes for 934 yards, scoring 13 total touchdowns in 24 games over two seasons. Defensively, he has recorded 89 total tackles, three tackles for loss, and five interceptions.
The current high school sophomore is listed at six feet, 170 pounds, and ranked 38th nationally, fourth among cornerbacks, and first in the state of Tennessee for the class of 2028, according to 247Sports Composite.
Cobbins has received interest and offers from numerous programs, including the Florida State Seminoles, Alabama Crimson Tide, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Ohio State Buckeyes, Ole Miss Rebels, Oregon Ducks, Tennessee Volunteers, Texas A&M Aggies, and Vanderbilt Commodores, among many others.
There are eight programs scheduled to host him:
- Alabama: March 13
- Georgia Bulldogs: March 17
- Tennessee: March 19
- Vanderbilt: March 21
- Texas A&M: March 22
- Florida State: April 2
- Florida Gators: April 3
- National Champion Indiana Hoosiers: April 18
The Hurricanes, Buckeyes, and Auburn Tigers have yet to establish a date.
Cobbins made previous unofficial visits with programs already listed:
- Vanderbilt: Oct. 19, 2024
- Tennessee: Nov. 2, 2024 and March 29, 2025
- Missouri Tigers: Nov. 8, 2025
It's still early in the recruiting process for there to be a clear frontrunner. The Hurricanes will have an opportunity to be a serious suitor for the four-star recruit. However, the Volunteers pose as an early threat due to being local. In some situations, recruits prefer to stay close to home.
Cobbins is likely to receive more offers as the journey continues, but the Hurricanes can make a strong early impression. Coming off a National Championship appearance, the defense significantly improved, especially with the leadership of defensive coordinator Corey Hetherman.
The future of the program could get brighter.
