Four-star safety Zayden Gamble narrows his choices to four elite programs. Will he commit to the Miami Hurricanes and stay home?
As high school recruits take official or unofficial visits with programs all over the nation, the Miami Hurricanes are off to an early start in constructing a top-ranked 2027 recruiting class. They currently have seven players committed, including a couple of elite wide receivers in Nick Lennear and Ah’Mari Stevens. The program will have an opportunity to add another top-tier talent in Zayden Gamble.
The four-star safety currently attends St. Thomas Aquinas High School, a private, Catholic, co-educational, college preparatory institution located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He’s recorded 92 total tackles, 70 solos and 22 assists, three tackles for loss, and seven interceptions, including a pick-six, in 27 total games over three seasons.
It was reported on Thursday that Gamble is eyeing four programs: the Florida Gators, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Ohio State Buckeyes, and Hurricanes.
The safety prospect is listed at 6-1, 190 pounds, and ranked 193rd nationally, 18th among his position, and 22nd in the state of Florida for the class of 2027, according to 247Sports Composite.
Gamble paid several unofficial visits with the Hurricanes before an official one on May 29.
The Fort Lauderdale native has an opportunity to remain close to home and perform for a program coming off a National Championship. Despite falling short in a 27-21 outing against the Indiana Hoosiers, the team was competitive throughout the entire season.
The Hurricanes won a program record 13 games. They were led by several homegrown stars, including All-American edge rusher Rueben Bain Jr., star running back Mark Fletcher Jr., and rising star wide receiver Malachi Toney, along with others.
Gamble has experience playing at safety and cornerback, adding versatility to his arsenal.
Last season, the Hurricanes experienced a defensive turnaround led by first-year defensive coordinator Corey Hetherman. The secondary was led by a couple of veterans, such as cornerback Keionte Scott and safety Jakobe Thomas. They received great contributions by several others, including Damari Brown, Xavier Lucas, Zechariah Poyser, Ethan O’Connor, OJ Frederique, and Bryce Fitzgerald, all of whom remain on the roster for next season.
The program added junior defensive back Omar Thornton through the transfer portal after playing two seasons with the Boston College Eagles.
Gamble was named to the Under Armour All-American roster and played for Team Pearls, who suffered a 23-9 loss to Team Roses.
The four-star recruit is set to announce his decision during the summer on July 16. The Hurricanes are in a prime position to land him, but nothing is certain until it’s official.
