The Miami Hurricanes' roster overhaul intensifies as the program targets defensive specialist Anthony Robinson II, eyeing a top talent to bolster the lineup.
Coming off a 26-9 season, the Miami Hurricanes men’s basketball program looks to reach new heights. However, before looking forward to the next game, the roster is in need of reshaping. As seniors Tre Donaldson, Malik Reneau, and Ernest Udeh Jr. depart, new leaders will be relied upon.
Coach Jai Lucas is known as one of the top recruiters in the nation, especially as an assistant with the Duke Blue Devils and Kentucky Wildcats. However, the 37-year-old looks to bring in similar high-caliber talent to Coral Gables, Florida.
It was reported on Tuesday, March 31, that guard Anthony Robinson II is a “monitoring” case for the Hurricanes early into the offseason, according to CanesInSight. The 21-year-old spent the previous three seasons with the Missouri Tigers, averaging 7.4 points on 42.7 percent shooting, 31.2 percent from three-point range, 2.7 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.2 steals in 96 total games.
The Tallahassee, Florida, native was named SEC All-Defense following a compelling 2024-25 campaign.
Robinson II was a three-star recruit coming from the Florida State University School District. He averaged 11.9 points on 53 percent shooting, 38 percent from three-point range, 4.1 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 2.4 steals in 134 total games over five seasons. Robinson II was ranked 150th nationally, 20th among point guards, and 13th in the state for the recruiting class of 2023, according to 247Sports Composite. The junior guard received interest and offers from a couple of local programs, such as the Florida State Seminoles and South Florida Bulls.
The former three-star recruit committed to the Tigers on June 30, 2022.
As the Hurricanes look to revamp the roster, Robinson II would be a tremendous fit. As a first-year head coach, Lucas wanted to build the program around establishing defensive habits. The team allowed the fifth-fewest opponent points in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Also, Robinson II shares a connection with current Hurricanes assistant coach Charlton “C.Y.” Young, who served as an associate head coach on the Tigers’ staff. He’s expected to play a role in the recruiting process.
It’s been reported that guards Tru Washington and Noam Dovrat will enter the transfer portal. As both players look to depart, seeking extended roles ahead of their senior year, Robinson II looks to do the same, potentially landing close to home.
However, there will likely be other suitors in the mix. It will be an important race for the Hurricanes to finish on top.
