JuJu Johnson’s commitment decision nears. The four-star athlete weighs the Miami Hurricanes against West Coast and Big Ten powers.
The Miami Hurricanes’ high school recruiting process continues to catch fire as JuJu Johnson is set to announce a decision on June 27. He’s a four-star athlete who currently attends Long Beach Polytechnic High School, a public institution located in Los Angeles County. As a sophomore, the California native recorded snaps on both sides of the field, at wide receiver and defensive back.
Johnson is eyeing five programs ahead of the commitment date: Oklahoma Sooners, UCLA Bruins, California Golden Bears, Michigan Wolverines, and Hurricanes.
The four-star prospect is listed at 5-10, 160 pounds, with a 75-inch wingspan, and ranked 67th nationally, eighth among cornerbacks, and seventh in the state of California for the 2027 recruiting class, according to Rivals Industry Rankings. He’s received interest and offers from numerous programs, including the Florida State Seminoles, Oregon Ducks, Washington Huskies, Texas Longhorns, Alabama Crimson Tide, Utah Utes, Arkansas Razorbacks, Nebraska Cornhuskers, USC Trojans, and Penn State Natty Lions.
Johnson took a visit with the Hurricanes around the Coral Gables campus and facility on Saturday, April 4. It could play a factor in his decision in the upcoming months.
As a sophomore, the highly-touted recruit recorded 43 total tackles, 33 solos and 10 assists, 2.5 tackles for loss, a sack, and an interception in 10 games. On the other side of the field, he caught eight passes for 177 yards, scoring two touchdowns.
The biggest threats to the Hurricanes in this recruiting process are the Bruins and Golden Bears, strictly because it’s an opportunity for Johnson to stay close to home. However, the Sooners could be a sneaky pick to land him, who currently has the highest Rivals prediction percentage at 96.4.
Johnson did not play a high school football game as a junior due to suffering a lower leg injury.
Coming off a National Championship appearance, the Hurricanes have been just as competitive on the high school recruiting trail. The program’s group is on pace to finish among the top-10 in the nation. They landed a few elite prospects, such as four-star wide receiver Nick Lennear, four-star offensive lineman Sean Tatum, four-star wide receiver Ah’Mari Stevens, and four-star quarterback Israel Abrams. Johnson has the opportunity to add another talent to the group.
The California native will have plenty of time until June 27 to be sure of which program is best to join for the future. The Hurricanes will be on standby as a decision looms while spring practice reaches the end.
