Rivals predicts the Miami Hurricanes will land elite four-star running back Myson Johnson-Cook, bolstering their already strong 2027 recruiting class.

The Miami Hurricanes are trending towards a top 2027 recruiting class after securing four-star quarterback Israel Abrams’ commitment. As spring training continues, the program will host visits with several prospects looking to join. Coming off a National Championship appearance, they are in a strong position to secure a brighter future.

It was reported on Wednesday that Rivals predicts the Hurricanes to land Myson Johnson-Cook. Steve Wiltfon and Allen Treiu give it a 60 percent confidence level. He’s a four-star running back who currently attends East St. Louis Senior High School, a public institution located in East St. Louis, Illinois. As a junior, Johnson-Cook rushed 126 times for 1,341 yards, scoring 20 touchdowns in 12 games.

The elite prospect is listed at 6-3, 220 pounds, and ranked 40th nationally, third among running backs, and first in the state of Illinois for the class of 2027, according to Rivals Industry Rankings. He received interest and offers from numerous programs, including the Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles, Ole Miss Rebels, Ohio State Buckeyes, Texas A&M Aggies, Oregon Ducks, Texas Tech Red Raiders, Georgia Bulldogs, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Texas Longhorns, Wisconsin Badgers, and Minnesota Golden Gophers, along with many others.

Last season, the Hurricanes took a strong approach in establishing the run game against each opponent. They had four high-quality running backs in homegrown star Mark Fletcher Jr., CharMar Brown, Girard Pringle Jr., and Jordan Lyle, all of whom returned for next year.

Johnson-Cook attended the program’s junior day on Sunday, March 5, plus an official visit scheduled for May 29.

Alongside Abrams, the Hurricanes landed commitments from a couple of elite wide receivers in Nick Lennear and Ah’Mari Stevens for the class of 2027. Adding a top-market player in the backfield would strengthen the program’s future. Johnson-Cook has the physical components to fit the profile the Hurricanes look for in a running back.

After retaining the core, the production is expected to keep trending upward.

The Hurricanes are leaving a landmark in Illinois, in terms of recruiting. They’ve landed impactful players, such as edge rusher Marquise Lightfoot and defensive tackle Armondo Blount. Johnson-Cook will have an opportunity to join the list, alongside Abrams.

Coming off a National Championship appearance, the program seeks to remain a contender among the best in the nation. Part of sustaining success is recruiting and developing elite-tier players.

The Hurricanes' future could get brighter as the 2027 recruiting class continues to build.
