Canes target Elijah Kimble, a dynamic dual-threat, visits Coral Gables as Miami bolsters its powerhouse backfield for the future.
The Miami Hurricanes have one of the best running back cores in the nation with star Mark Fletcher Jr., CharMar Brown, Girard Pringle Jr., and Jordan Lyle. Each of them has unique qualities, but all deliver a winning impact.
In college sports, it's never wrong for a program to get too greedy, especially with the high rate of players entering the transfer portal. As the recruiting class of 2027 gets active, the Hurricanes scheduled a spring visit with Elijah Kimble. He'll take a trip to Coral Gables on Thursday, May 5, for "305 Day."
The three-star talent is a running back who currently attends Canisius High School, an all-boys Catholic private preparatory college institution located in Buffalo, New York. He rushed 599 times for 5,325 yards, 8.9 yards per carry, scoring 73 touchdowns in 34 games over three seasons.
Kimble is versatile, playing snaps on the defensive side of the field. He recorded 53 total tackles, 38 solos and 15 assists, three tackles for loss, four passes defended, and four interceptions.
The New York prospect is listed at 5-10, 185 pounds, and ranked 294th nationally, 19th among running backs, and first in the state of New York for the class of 2027, according to 247Sports Composite.
Kimble has received interest and offers from numerous programs, including the Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles, Georgia Bulldogs, Michigan Wolverines, Oregon Ducks, Ohio State Buckeyes, and Tennessee Volunteers, among many others.
The three-star recruit has summer visits scheduled:
- Indiana Hoosiers: May 15
- Washington Huskies: May 29
- Hurricanes: June 5
- North Carolina Tar Heels: June 12
Fletcher Jr., Brown, and Pringle Jr. were key factors in the Hurricanes' run game last season. Lyle dealt with injuries, which derailed his trajectory.
Also, the program officially announced the hiring of new running backs coach Favian Upshaw on Tuesday. Despite playing at quarterback throughout college, he possessed great speed and could rush down the field for touchdowns.
Securing multiple visits with Kimble could go a long way in the recruiting process, especially with the high level of activity running backs are under offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson's schemes.
The offensive line played a pivotal role in the Hurricanes' ability to run the ball and despite losing four starters to the upcoming NFL Draft, the next group stepping up is expected to produce similar results.
The program is known for developing talent, which could benefit Kimble in the long run. However, the three-star recruit will have a chance to explore all options before making a final decision.
