As the Miami Hurricanes men’s basketball season ends, football spring training is approaching. Coming off a National Championship appearance, the program looks to handle unfinished business, especially after revamping the roster. However, there are still other matters to attend to, such as high school recruiting.
The Hurricanes have emerged as finalists for several top-market prospects, including five-star tight end Ahmad Hudson. The program continues to schedule official and unofficial visits, as Julius Jones Jr. joins the long list. He’s a four-star wide receiver who currently attends St. Thomas Aquinas High School, a private institution located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Jones caught 51 passes for 750 yards, scoring eight touchdowns in 13 games as a sophomore.
Plus, the four-star recruit is related to former NFL running backs Julius Jones Sr. and former Pro-Bowler Thomas Jones.
Jones Jr. is listed at 5-11, 175 pounds, and ranked 68th nationally, 12th among wide receivers, and seventh in the state of Florida for the class of 2027, according to 247Sports Composite. He scheduled an unofficial visit with the Hurricanes for Wednesday, March 25, including an official one on May 29-31.
The current high school junior received interest and offers from numerous programs, including the Florida State Seminoles, Auburn Tigers, Georgia Bulldogs, LSU Tigers, Michigan Wolverines, Missouri Tigers, North Carolina State Wolfpack, Ohio State Buckeyes, Ole Miss Rebels, Oklahoma Sooners, Texas A&M Aggies, and SMU Mustangs, along with many others.
Along with the Hurricanes, Jones Jr. scheduled visits with the Oregon Ducks, Florida Gators, and Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
Unofficial:
- Oregon: April 3-5
- Notre Dame: April 10-12
Official:
- Oregon: June 5-7
- Notre Dame: June 11-13
- Florida: June 19-21
The Hurricanes have gained the attention of several wide receiver high school prospects after Malachi Toney’s historic freshman season. He caught a nation’s high 109 passes for 1,211 yards, scoring 13 total touchdowns.
There’s an extra emphasis within the program to recruit and develop in-house talent. They found success with Toney, All-American edge rusher Rueben Bain Jr., and star running back Mark Fletcher Jr., along with others.
All current commits for the class of 2027 are from the state of Florida, including a couple of elite wide receivers in Ah’Mari Stevens and Nick Lennear. If the Hurricanes manage to land another in Jones Jr., it sets the program for long-term success and the opportunity to remain competitive.
However, there’s probably a long way to go before the four-star recruit makes any final decision.
